Vodafone 4G – get set for faster and better

Great news. We’ve secured the biggest chunk of phone spectrum to help run our ultra-fast 4G service. That includes the low frequency mobile phone signal that'll strengthen our indoor coverage.

4G is a big deal. It's the new generation of phone network. Vodafone 4G will give you ultra-fast speeds when you’re out and about, whether you're browsing the internet, streaming videos, or sending emails. It also means faster downloads on the go.

We spent a cool £790m in Ofcom's recent auction of mobile phone spectrum, and picked up a third of the crucial low frequency (800MHz), plus the higher-frequency spectrum to boost our existing network.

It all means that when we launch our ultra-fast 4G service later this year our 4G signal will be stronger and more reliable in the places you want to use it most. Our signal will travel further indoors than any 4G signal available now - all things being equal. And we’ll bring our signal to a host of new areas through our commitment to 98% indoor coverage across the UK before 2016.

Our preparations are advancing every day. We already have several 4G-ready phones in our range so you’ll be good to go when Vodafone 4G comes to your area - and we’re adding more all the time.

Success for Vodafone UK in Ofcom's mobile phone spectrum auction is another huge milestone on the road to bringing you Vodafone 4G later this year.

We'll be launching 4G city-by-city. We can’t say which ones yet, but we'll let you know as soon possible. But rest assured, no one else owns as much of their network's fibre backbone as we do – 20,500km of it in fact – so it means we can control our quality of service in a way other mobile networks can’t.
