Business continuity

The type of risks businesses face has changed in recent years – and so has our attitude towards them.

As owners and managers, we’re more conscious of the threats and how they can hit us when least expected. The riots of 2011 reminded us of this.

The inter-connected, globalised world has made risk more complex and the repercussions harder to predict.

The latest trends

  • 61% of businesses have been more focused on risk in the past 3 years
  • 78% of large SMEs (50-249 staff), 60% of mid-sized SMEs (10-49 staff) and 43% of businesses with fewer than 10 staff have business continuity plans
  • 26% only instigated business continuity plans in the past 2 years
  • 58% have tested business continuity plans in the past year
  • 49% have experienced disruption due to extreme weather
  • 39% have experienced loss of IT systems

Staff now demand more from their employer. Not only do they want to be treated fairly, but they expect to be fulfilled, empowered and to be able to work flexibly. But flexible working is a win-win scenario for both employer and employee.

The latest trends

  • Difficult economic conditions mean staff are less likely to change jobs
  • Employers are struggling to attract the best people
