Which one is best for you?
iPhone 8 Plus is the successor to iPhone 7 Plus – similar in looks, but with a number of upgrades that will delight Apple fans. iPhone 8 Plus keeps the familiar home button and the screen looks pretty similar to what we’ve seen before – though it now has True Tone capability, adjusting colours to stay looking natural in different lights. The back of the phone, however, is now glass instead of aluminium. This, Apple assures us, is the toughest ever featured in one of their devices – so the phone has more chance of surviving drops.
The glass back also enables iPhone 8 Plus to feature a new wireless charging system. It’s compatible with Qi wireless charging points that can be found in many airports and hotels, and is already being incorporated into furniture by some manufacturers. A cool feature of Apple’s own charging pads is that you can see the charging status of your Apple Watch and AirPods on the screen of your iPhone Plus alongside its own status.
iPhone 8 Plus also benefits from Apple’s new A11 Bionic processor. With 6 cores working together, you’ll enjoy a smoother gaming experience than ever. As for battery life, it’s on a par with iPhone 7 Plus, but now has the ability to charge more quickly – up to 50% in 30 minutes. Another neat new feature is the Portrait Lighting mode, which can pick out the subject of a selfie and add some really cool lighting effects – including blurring out the background.
All new editions are nice to have – but might not make you rush out and trade in your iPhone 7 Plus for the newer model. If you’re looking to upgrade from an earlier model though, iPhone 8 has some nifty new features to recommend it.
