Frequently asked questions

This section is full of useful information on how to apply. If your question isn't answered here, please don't hesitate to contact us.

The application process

  • Do I need a work permit to apply?

We are unable to employ anyone who doesn't have the right to work in the UK. We are also unable to apply for work permits for individual jobs until all UK and European Economic Area employment sources have been exhausted. If you need any more information on this, please visit the UK government site

In exceptional circumstances, if we're unable to recruit within the UK/EEA, we will apply for work permits for highly specialised roles or hard-to-find skills when all other options are exhausted

  • Will you be taking up employment references?

We have a responsibility to protect our business, employees and customers. As a result, everyone who's offered a role will have to undergo a number of verification checks carried out by a third party.

The checks will vary in relation to the position you applied for, and will include current/previous employment, education, residency, and relevant professional qualifications. Unfortunately if the results of these don't add up with what you've told us, we'll have to take back our offer.

Further details on the process will be provided at interview stage.

  • What qualities do you look for in applicants?

Aside from any requisite technical skills and qualifications, we look for initiative, good communication and team-working skills, as well as the ability to inspire others. For more senior and managerial positions, your proven leadership ability will also be important.

  • What is the recruitment process at Vodafone?

This differs depending on whether you join us in a retail store, contact centre, as a graduate or in one of our professional functions. Please go to the application process section of the website for further information.

  • Is there a limit to the number of jobs I can apply for?

We recommend you don't apply for more than three jobs at once, and you should take care when applying via your job basket to apply for the most appropriate roles first.

  • Can I withdraw from an application if I change my mind?

Yes. To do so you'll need to email careers@vodafone.co.uk with the job title and reference number of the role you applied for. Then our Resourcing team will remove your application against this specific role, but you will still be registered on our candidate database.

  • How do I cancel my account?

Simply log in to your account, cancel any alerts you have set up and email us at careers@vodafone.co.uk. We'll then make sure your account is cancelled.

  • Who can I contact for more information about applying for a role at Vodafone?

Please go to the contact us section of the website for further guidance.

General enquiries can usually be sent in by emailing careers@vodafone.co.uk. But please do not send in speculative CVs or applications via this email address, as our resourcing team can't match them from there to a vacancy. Alternatively if you register with our candidate database via My Career section of this website, they can.

  • Performance and progression

  • How would my performance be appraised?

As well as informal discussions with your line manager, you'll have an annual performance review called your 'Performance Dialogue'. This is designed to help you set clear goals for the upcoming year, and identify the skills or support you need to achieve them.

  • What training will I get?

Your personal development and training will vary depending on your role, business area and ability.

However, all the programmes you will receive are designed to help you get the most out of your career. This could be a classroom-based or on-line training course or via home learning.

  • What opportunities are there for career progression?

The sheer size and diversity of our business means there are some great opportunities for you to go onwards and upwards. Every year we successfully manage to recruit over 1,000 people who are already in our business, into new roles.

Whatever you want to do, whichever direction you want your career to take, there is a good chance we can help make it happen. All our roles are advertised on our internal applications system – before they’re advertised externally. There's also the opportunity to apply for roles within the international Vodafone group of companies.

  • Is it possible to gain experience in different areas at Vodafone after joining?

We think it's great if you want to move about and broaden your experiences; but it does all hang on your suitability for that role and the availability. This includes secondments to other Group operating companies.

Our internal vacancies site contains all current positions available, and also means you can receive job alerts, so you can be notified when vacancies that meet your requirements become available.

  • Working at Vodafone

  • I have a disability. Is this a problem?

    No, not at all.

  • What induction do I get?

Whichever area of the business you join, you'll have a comprehensive induction that includes a one-day 'welcome' event, on-line learning processes and on-the-job activities.

  • Where might I be located?

We have nearly 400 retail stores, stretching from one end of the country to the other (please see our store locator to find your nearest one) and our contact centres are based in Didsbury, Newark, Newbury, Stoke-on-Trent and Trowbridge.

The majority of all our other roles - with the exception of our field-based sales teams who are likely to be home-based - will usually be located in and around our Head Offices in Newbury. There are also some occasional opportunities based on-site at client locations.

Locations will be specific against each individual job advertised.

  • Will I get a parking space?

Where we don't have that many spaces, we give them to the people who need them most. But if you're not disabled, car share or classed as a priority, you'll need to join a waiting list until a space becomes available.

At certain locations we have an 'opt-out' scheme, where there are rewards for using alternative means of transport. These include our Newbury and Banbury sites, where a free local bus service is provided.

  • Can I get work experience at Vodafone?

Sorry, but we're not able to offer work experience, only full or part time positions.

  • Rewards and benefits

  • What benefits do I get?

We offer a great selection of rewards and benefits. Please go to the Rewards & benefits section of the website for specific information.

  • I am currently a member of a professional institute – will Vodafone pay for my annual membership fees?

We'll reimburse one membership fee of a relevant professional body per year, provided it's essential for working in your profession - such as the Law Society. We'll also help with your professional development too.

  • Does Vodafone offer sponsorship for educational qualifications?

You can apply to be sponsored for an educational qualification that relates to your role or is agreed as part of your development plan - normally by distance learning or evening study.

If you ask for sponsorship during the recruitment process, the senior manager concerned will decide whether to approve your application. If it's agreed, Vodafone will pay course fees, examination fees and membership costs.

  • Will Vodafone pay if I need to relocate?

This will be entirely dependent on the level at which you join and can be discussed during the recruitment process.
