How to transfer from another network to Vodafone
The person responsible for your organisation's mobile phones will let you know the exact date you're transferring over to us. We call this 'transfer day'.
On your transfer day, you'll be moved to the Vodafone network sometime between 11am and 4pm. It's worth giving your contacts an alternative number during this time, as you may not get all of your calls. We'll complete the transfer process by 4pm.
A few simple steps before you transfer
Before your transfer day, you'll need to:
- Make sure the battery on your new phone is fully charged
- Transfer information from your old SIM card to your new one. If you need help, just visit our Support Centre
On the day of your transfer
It doesn't take very long to transfer – just make sure you:
- Have your new SIM card and phone with you
- Record a new message on your Voicemail saying you may not be able to respond to messages left between 11am and 4pm
- Continue using your existing SIM card and phone until you get any of these messages:
- No Service
- Unregistered SIM
- Card Error
- Contact Provider
- Faulty Card
- or until you no longer receive incoming calls. If you're on a call when the transfer happens you'll be disconnected. You'll then need to switch to your new SIM card and mobile phone. This will mean your number has been successfully transferred to Vodafone.
- For added security, don't forget to reset your PIN – it will have defaulted to 0000.
Dedicated customer service teams
Need help or support? Our friendly and knowledgeable customer service team is on hand 24 hours a day to help (there's a limited service between 10pm and 8am). Just give them a call on 03333 044444.
When you call from a landline you'll need to enter your mobile or account number. You'll then get straight through to a team member who'll already have your details in front of them and be ready to support you. This information also helps us identify your call in a disaster recovery situation - so it's very important you give us these details this each time you call.
Our goal is to answer 90% of calls within 15 seconds and respond to emails with 24 hours. Your calls may be monitored for training, security and other purposes permissible by law.
When you can't receive a call, Voicemail takes a message - so you can play it back when you're free. To set up Voicemail, tap in 1211. Once it's activated, call 121 to get your messages.
To change your Voicemail settings, tap in 121 then 4 for Mailbox.
Personalise your Voicemail
To record your personal greeting tap in 121, then 3.
Want to leave a message for someone else? Just tap in 121 before you dial their number and you'll go straight through to their Voicemail. It could be useful if you don't have time to talk.
Set a personal Voicemail pin before you leave the country, so you can access your mailbox while you're away.
Find out how to do this at our Support Centre under Messaging.
Call Waiting is a handy feature that tells you if a call's coming in when you're on one already. It also lets you switch between callers. That means you can still use your mobile even when you're waiting for an important call.
To set up Call Waiting, tap in *43# on your phone.
When you have a new call coming in:
- Press 1 and send to end the first call and answer the second one.
- Press 2 and send to hold the first call while you answer the second one.
During the call:
- Press 1 and send to end the second call and revert back to the first one.
- Press 2 to swap between callers.
To cancel Call Waiting, tap in #43# on your phone.
It's easy to keep track of what's going on at home when you're abroad. When you arrive in a new country your mobile will automatically search for a locally available network. If it doesn't, you can find Vodafone preferred networks and details on overseas rates at www.vodafone.co.uk/workabroad.
You can also text FROM plus the country you're visiting (FROM FRANCE, for example) to 4636 - then we'll text standard network and cost information straight to you. Please note that the cost will appear as 'a charge up to £xx' in this text message. This reflects the standard rate – you'll be charged according to your price plan.
Texting 4636 is free if you're in the UK, but standard roaming rates apply if you're abroad. You won't be charged for receiving the message sent to you from 4636.
