What is download speed?

Your broadband download speed is how many megabits (Mbps) of data per second it takes to download data from the internet – it’s how fast your internet connection can transfer data from a server to you. Listening to music, streaming TV shows, and downloading large files all need you to download data.

What’s a good download speed?

The best download speed for you depends how many people in your household use the broadband, and how they use it. For example, a household of 1-2 people using the internet to work will likely need a download speed of at least 4Mbps to browse comfortably or watch a streaming service.
