Smart Motion Sensing Privacy Policy

Introduction

This privacy supplement gives some additional information around the processing conducted for Vodafone Smart Motion Sensing, to provide further context to our main privacy policy

Vodafone Smart Motion Sensing is a home monitoring service available to eligible customers using the Vodafone Ultra Hub router (the 'Hub'). Users of this service will be able to detect disturbances in their Wi-Fi signal between the Hub and stationary devices connected to the Hub via Wi-Fi - for example, smart TVs, smart speakers, smart lightbulbs, etc.

By monitoring these disturbances, the Service can detect movement within the property, determine whether that movement is caused by humans or pets, and alert account holders or additional household members when unexpected movement is detected. The user can also be notified of when family members enter and leave the home, by using information gathered from the router of when they connected and disconnected from the Wi-Fi.

Information we collect about you

Just like the data collected to provide Vodafone Home Broadband, this service will process data about your devices, such as media access control (MAC address).

We will process names and numbers provided by the account holder, when they enter this information to get notifications about household members leaving or arriving home, based on their primary mobile device disconnecting from or connecting to the Wi-Fi, respectively.

To help us determine how well the service is working, identifiers such as the number of devices set up for motion sensing, when the service was activated or deactivated is also collected.

When we collect your personal information

We collect your personal information when:

  • Using Vodafone Smart Motion Sensing service in the Home Broadband App

This also enables us to generate your bill, based on your usage. We also need to conduct credit checks when you apply for a product or service.

How we use the information collected

Vodafone will use your device information, name and number (as provided by the account holder):

  • To let the account holder know that any household members have entered or left the home, determined solely by their mobile phones disconnecting and connecting to home Wi-Fi.
  • To notify the account holder when unexpected human movement has been detected.
  • Conduct analytics to determine the success of the trial and product.

What information we don't collect

Vodafone Smart Motion Sensing will not track your device's movement around the house, for example we do not collect GPS data.

We don't collect personal data other than the type of device, unless the account holder provides it (for example tags your name and number) and you have not opted out.

What choices do you have

You may choose to opt out of being tagged as a household member, i.e. your name and number used by the account holder, so that they will not be alerted when you enter or leave the home. This can be done by responding to the text message (SMS) sent by the service in the format mentioned.
