Users create detailed profiles for the matching process. They are asked for a variety of information, some of which they can make public, such as whether they want to have children. A user can pay to get more profile views, send unlimited ‘likes’ or see profiles which have the same politics or level of education. Hinge automatically scans user content to try to identify potential harm.
Hinge is for adults so it does not have parental controls but includes safety settings. For example, a user can hide when they were last active on the app (and won’t see when other users were last active). They can hide their profile although this means they can’t see other new profiles either. A person can use the ‘Hidden words’ feature to hide comments from other users containing certain words (they can choose to view the comments if they wish). They can also block (‘unmatch’) and report other users.
