Hinge

Users create detailed profiles for the matching process. They are asked for a variety of information, some of which they can make public, such as whether they want to have children. A user can pay to get more profile views, send unlimited ‘likes’ or see profiles which have the same politics or level of education.

Hinge is for adults so it does not have parental controls but includes safety settings. For example, a user can hide their profile although this means they can’t see other profiles either. They can also block (‘unmatch’) and report other users.

A new user must provide six photos or videos, which don’t need to show their face. They are asked for a variety of information, some of which they can make public, such as whether they want to have children. A user can pay to get more profile views, send unlimited ‘likes’ or see profiles which have the same politics or level of education.

A user’s birth date isn’t checked so a child or older adult could pretend to be the minimum age of 18. A user can get a ‘verified’ badge by submitting a video selfie to prove they are the same person as their profile photo (however this does not prove their identity).
