Xiaomi smartphones

What it is
Xiaomi smartphones is a line of primarily Android-based smartphones (meaning they are powered by Google’s Android operating system) owned by electronics company, Xiaomi Inc. Newer models use Xiaomi’s HyperOS operating system, which is also based on Android.

How it works
Xiaomi smartphones allow users to access core functions such as making voice calls or sending text messages in addition to shooting videos, browsing the internet and much more. The Google Play store also gives users access to millions of popular apps. AI (artificial intelligence) is included in newer models for tasks like creating videos, taking notes and translating text.

Parental controls or safety settings available
These smartphones have parental controls and safety settings available and these can be accessed through the Google Family Link app. This gives parents the ability to:

• Set daily time limits

• Restrict their child’s access to specific apps, websites or features

• View the location of their child’s device

You can also access parental control settings via Xiaomi’s device settings. Xiaomi phones may include a ‘Second Space’ function, which allows the user to switch to an alternative profile (where parental controls do not apply). Parents may wish to pin-protect Second Space.
