Among Us

What it is
Among Us is a murder mystery game set on a spaceship. It’s available on various platforms such as iOS, Nintendo Switch, Windows, PlayStation and there is a virtual reality version on Meta Quest.

How it works
Each player is randomly allocated a role as either a ‘crewmate’ or an ‘imposter’ (pretending to be a crewmate). The crewmates’ mission is to complete tasks and correctly identify the imposter(s). Imposters try to sabotage the mission and eliminate other players.

Among Us is a multi-player game and includes text chat (voice chat with nearby players is available in the virtual reality version). There is an offline single-player mode called Freeplay used for practice with computer bots. A player can play privately with friends or join public games. They can also purchase additional items or complete limited-time collaborations with other games to change the appearance of their character or crewmate. Mobile app players can choose to watch adverts to earn in-game rewards.

On some platforms, Among Us can be played with a temporary account (meaning you don’t need to create a full account to play, but some features like chat will be restricted). If a child states that they are aged under 13 when they sign up to play the game, they will need to share their parent/guardian’s email address.

Parental controls or safety settings available
Safety settings allow players to manage friend requests and game invitations. While text chat cannot be disabled entirely, players can block and report others and apply filters for inappropriate comments.

Parental controls enable management of chat permissions, such as restricting users to Quick Chat which uses pre-written phrases. Parents can also control whether a child can invite friends or create a visible username. Additional protections are available through the settings of the device used for play.
