How it works
Users chat with Claude by typing or speaking, and receive human-like responses. Different Claude models are available e.g. Sonnet for everyday tasks and Haiku for quick queries. Haiku is more efficient and uses less electricity, so is more environmentally friendly. A paid subscription provides higher usage and more powerful models. The ‘Extended Thinking’ setting shows more detailed reasoning in its responses, but even confident-sounding AI responses can be incorrect and should be checked with a reputable source.
On Claude, users can:
• Share their chats with others via a public link/span>
• Set personal preferences for all chats, such as ‘Always use English UK spelling’
• Allow Claude to remember their chats, so they don’t have to repeat themselves when starting a new conversation
A user can ask Claude to undertake tasks in other apps, such as drafting an email in Gmail. They can allow it to read their calendar and access their location. Caution is advised in allowing any AI app to access files, emails or take actions in other apps, on a user’s behalf.
Parental controls or safety settings available
There are no parental controls because Claude is designed for adults. Users can opt out of having their chats automatically used to train and improve Claude, although this means all chat will be deleted after 30 days. They can also:
• Use Incognito Mode so that their conversations disappear automatically
• Delete their chat history at any time
• Report harmful responses
