How it works
Users can ask the chatbot questions by text or voice, get help solving problems, and create images. They can also view, create and share AI-generated videos with other users on the Vibes feed.
The app has several tabs or sections:
• New Chat: For asking the chatbot questions. Instant mode gives quick answers; Thinking mode suits complex queries. Responses can draw on public posts from Instagram, Facebook and Threads, as well as online search. Answers sound human and confident but can be incorrect.
• Media: For creating or analysing images.
• Vibes: A social media tab with a continuous feed of AI-created videos. Users can create, share, like, comment on and remix Vibes, view other users’ profiles and follower counts, and start chats with them. All profiles, including profile pictures, are public.
• Glasses: Information about Meta Glasses.
Users can also:
• Change Meta AI’s voice
• Check if an image was created using Meta AI
• Upload a selfie to add themselves to images or videos (Your likeness)
• Access developing features, such as hearing themselves speak another language (Meta AI Demos)
• Draft emails and calendar entries by connecting to email and calendar apps (caution is advised when letting AI tools take actions in other apps)
Parental controls or safety settings available
Users can report or hide a Vibe, mute or block other profiles from their Vibes feed, and prevent others from following them.
Privacy settings let users stop their Vibes appearing as suggestions to Facebook and Instagram users. Anything typed into Meta AI is used to improve Meta’s AI models; there is no in-app setting to prevent this, but users can submit an Objection Request via Meta’s website. A separate request can be made if personal information gathered from the internet appears in a Meta AI answer.
