Even more network improvements have landed at the UK’s second-busiest airport as part of VodafoneThree’s £11bn UK-wide investment.
Customers of both Vodafone and Three at London Gatwick Airport are enjoying faster data speeds and better-quality voice calls thanks to network improvements made by VodafoneThree.
London Gatwick is the country’s second-busiest airport, receiving around 43m passengers each year. In 2022, Vodafone UK introduced dedicated coverage across the airport’s North and South terminals. Now, with the introduction of innovative MOCN ‘Multi-Operator Core Network’ technology, Three customers can also enjoy this mobile coverage at no extra cost. Their online experiences, from downloading box sets to sending last-minute work emails before stepping onto the plane, should now be faster and smoother.
Meanwhile, both terminals now also have dedicated Vodafone 5G+ (also known as 5G Standalone or 5G SA) which will help customers with compatible devices and plans enjoy a faster, more reliable connection, particularly during busy periods. For customers with especially demanding needs, Vodafone SuperMobile can help. With this plan, they can also access Vodafone’s new 5G+ FastTrack which has speeds up to 4x faster than standard plans in busy areas. This can be a boon in so many circumstances, from frazzled parents in departure terminals downloading those all-important Paw Patrol boxsets, to business travellers in arrivals joining last-minute conference calls or uploading vital files.
Vodafone 5G+ also powers Vodafone SuperMobile for Business, which gives the businesses across the airport dedicated capacity on VodafoneThree’s network by separating business traffic from consumer demand. This makes it perfect for airport business applications – such as smart queue management, real-time asset and baggage tracking, and rapid point-of-sale connectivity for shops and restaurants.
In June 2025, the newly merged Vodafone Three announced a UK-wide £11 billion investment programme, with key commitments including the rollout of 5G Standalone (also known as 5G SA) to 99% of the UK population by 2030, and further, to 99.96% by 2034.
