Vodafone 5G network turbo boosts Virgin Media’s mobile service

5G arrives for Virgin Media mobile customers in 100 places across the UK thanks to Vodafone UK partnership.

Virgin Media’s mobile customers can now take advantage of 5G in 100 locations across the UK thanks to the company’s partnership with Vodafone UK, first announced in 2019.

Any Virgin Media mobile customer who upgrades to 5G will receive all of their mobile connectivity from Vodafone’s UK network. Nothing changes for new and current Virgin Media mobile customers on 4G plans whose mobile network will continue to be provided by BT/EE until 31 December 2021.

“Virgin 5G customers won’t have to worry about anything because Virgin will manage the switch to Vodafone ‘over-the-air’ in a seamless change,” says Mike Cartwright, Head of Wholesale, Vodafone UK.

5G is not only faster than 4G, but is also more reliable and has lower latency. With Vodafone’s 5G network powering their mobile experience, Virgin Media customers can expect average speeds of 176Mbps, which is 4.5 times faster than their previous 4G speeds.

Customers with a 5G-equipped smartphone can take advantage of the service, at no extra cost, on a range of SIM-only and Pay Monthly plans.

Virgin Media mobile customers will continue to benefit as Vodafone UK’s 5G network expands into more locations in the future.

In a public poll, readers of Trusted Reviews voted Vodafone’s network as the best in the UK. Vodafone’s 5G network in London was named as the best in the capital by network benchmarking specialists umlaut.

“This is continued validation of Vodafone’s wholesale strategy of bringing new MVNOs [Mobile Virtual Network Operators] onto our network,” says Mr Cartwright.
