A player must search for useful weapons and resources on an island to battle against others. They can buy Apex Coins to buy in-game items such as new characters or gift items to other players (gifts can only be exchanged once players have been friends for at least two weeks).
Players can communicate with each other via voice chat and messages. They can enable text and voice chat with everyone, just their friends or no-one. In voice chat they can mute another player or turn it off. They can also report another player.
A player needs an EA account to play Apex Legends. Players can manage privacy settings, such as preventing other EA users from being able to search for a person’s email address or preventing personal data from being used for advertising. If a player registers an account with an under-18 birth date, some safety settings are automatically applied. Apex Legends may be inaccessible to under-13 accounts (which are created and managed on the EA app) due to the PEGI rating of the game and because child EA accounts have restricted access to online play and social features.
A parent can link their 13+ teen’s EA account to their own EA account to apply parental controls. This can include managing spending and viewing time spent playing. Additional parental controls and safety settings may be available on the gaming platforms used to play Apex Legends, such as PlayStation.
