How it works
The app shows content arranged into categories such as New Releases, Dramas and Kids. Content is rated using British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) ratings from U to 18 or Apple’s own age ratings. Commercial streamers don’t need to meet the same educational or quality standards as public service broadcasters.
The account holder can create up to five additional profiles using the Apple TV app on a smart TV, gaming console or streaming device. These can be set as Kid profiles to ensure children only see age-appropriate content. Alternatively, parents can use Apple’s Family Sharing service to set up separate accounts for each family member.
Parental controls or safety settings available
Parents can set content restrictions which apply to Apple TV, Apple Podcasts and Apple Music. They can set a PIN to prevent a child using a Kid profile from:
• Changing age ratings
• Switching out of the Kid profile
A user can stop the app from autoplaying the next episode or recommendations. They can also prevent it from using their location, watch history or other activities to personalise recommended content.
*The account holder must be at least 18. However, children can use the service if supervised by a parent.
