How it works
Users can type or speak questions. To reduce environmental impact, create a single, precise request rather than using multiple messages. Voice Mode allows for natural, real-time conversation. Grok has real-time access to posts on X and can search online, but like all AI models, its results may be incorrect. A user can:
• Allow Grok to remember previous conversations
• Customise Grok, such as being more formal or brief in tone
• Create a mini-version of Grok (a Project) with a custom tone, style and persona (only if logged in on a browser)
Read-only chats can be shared via a public link, but group chats with the AI are only possible within the X app. Users can pay for features such as the ability to create pictures and videos in the Image tab.
They can create Grok Tasks to schedule actions such as providing a daily topic summary. Grok cannot take actions in external apps (e.g. Gmail).
Parental controls or safety settings available
There are no built-in parental controls but users can report concerns. Grok includes automatic filters to restrict inappropriate content for under 18s. Users can opt out of AI training and use Private Chat to avoid saving history. X users can prevent their data being used to personalise the AI experience.
A user can prevent their chat from being used to train AI models, and Private Mode prevents a specific chat from being saved. X users can prevent their X data from being used to personalise their Grok experience.
