A user installs Locket as a ‘widget’ on their phone. This is a small interactive app that automatically shows photos. The user can tap on the widget to open the app to take photos, invite friends, send messages or amend settings.
To share an image, a user opens Locket and takes a photo or a ‘live photo’ (very short video that is a few seconds long). They can add a caption such as pre-written text (e.g. ‘Goodnight’), the current time, or write their own caption before sending. They can select certain friends to receive the image or send it to everyone. The image is immediately shown on the widget on their friend’s phones, along with the sender’s username and a streak score (number showing how many days in a row the users have exchanged images).
After receiving an image, a user can respond to it with a message or emoji, such as a heart or smiley face. They can download the image or share it to other social media apps. The app includes the history of sent and received images and messages. A user can ‘undo send’, which removes a message or image that they have sent from everyone’s Locket app. They can also delete an image they’ve received, but it will only be deleted on their own app.
Users can pay for Locket Gold to upload pictures from their camera roll, add as many friends as they like and to find out who has ‘opened’ their lockets.
Locket does not have parental controls. Safety settings include blocking another person and reporting a message. A user can prevent other people from being able to find them via their username, and add a profile picture (but this will be visible to any other users who have their phone number). They can turn off the streak function, so that their widget does not show the streak score.
