The game works like a boardgame and a player can play alone (against computer characters) or with friends playing together using the same console. They can also pay a monthly fee to play this and other Nintendo games against other players online, and to access voice chat (for players who have either the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app or are using a Switch 2 console, which has integrated voice and video chat (parental permission may be needed). Each player takes a turn to roll a dice and move around a virtual game board. There are several game boards, such as ‘Goomba Lagoon’ and ‘Roll ‘Em Raceway’. Each square on a game board has different activities, such as a mini game or challenge, or giving/removing coins or stars. The player with the most stars at the end, wins the game.
Accessibility settings include the ability to change the difficulty of the game and disable ‘Motion Minigames’ that need a player to physically use the Switch controllers in certain ways.
PIN-protected parental controls are available on Nintendo Switch consoles including restricting content by age and managing chat. These settings apply to all users of the console and they can also be managed on the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls mobile app, as well as the ability to set play time limits. Parents can set spending limits at the Nintendo eShop and disable friend suggestions by creating a ‘Family Group’ as part of their own Nintendo account online.
