Vodafone Business and CSL earned the award for their delivery of one of the UK’s most ambitious, and critical, Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity projects.
With the UK in the process of switching off its old landline telephone network – otherwise known as the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) – it’s not only individual consumers that are being affected, but businesses too.
To ensure the transition from an analogue to a digital system does not interrupt services, or fall foul of regulatory compliance, Vodafone Business and CSL joined forces to modernise the connectivity infrastructure of high-street retailers nationwide.
While Vodafone took on the role of strategic communications provider, for its fixed and mobile network reach and managed IoT Connectivity platform, CSL was appointed as the specialist IoT services partner for the project.
The Internet of Things: Everything you need to know
The Internet of Things may sound like buzzword bingo, but this low-key yet wide-ranging technology is already changing our lives in many ways.
By working together, the project overcame diverse infrastructure requirements, accessibility challenges and varying installation conditions, helping to maintain 24/7 availability during the switch from PSTN to fibre-based services.
As a result, it has delivered 99.99% uptime, supporting millions of secure daily transactions and providing resilience in the face of potential infrastructure failures.
All of which has seen it named ‘IoT Alliance of the Year’ at the tenth iteration of the IoT Breakthrough Awards – an award that Vodafone Business also picked up in 2024 for its smart meter initiative.
In total, Vodafone has now won six IoT Breakthrough Awards since 2017. Most recently, the company was awarded 2025’s ‘Overall Smart City Solution of the Year’ for Vodafone Connected Vision (formerly known as Connected Spaces Vision).
