Vodafone and Admiral extend digital partnership for Admiral Car Insurance

The technology partnership will lead to a smoother claims process and other benefits, such as reduced premiums for careful drivers.

Vodafone and Admiral have finalised a new agreement, extending their multi-year digital partnership. Vodafone will provide the underlying telematics services for the installed Admiral LittleBox offer, including devices, connectivity, data management and crash detection.

Telematicsenabled Usage-based Insurance provides drivers with discounted car insurance premiums based on analysis of their driving behaviour. The Vodafone service provides Admiral with detailed driving data that is used to create a score for each customer, which in turn can lead to a discount at renewal for the safer drivers.

How 'black box' car tech could reduce accidents, pollution and insurance costs

Incentivising the take-up of smart driver-monitoring technology - or telematics - could assist the government in lowering the cost of motoring, reducing road accidents and improving air quality.

Additionally, Vodafone provides Admiral with detailed information on crash situations, helping the company to streamline the customer journey and claims process. Working together, Vodafone and Admiral have developed a crash filter that ensures false crash notifications are filtered out, enabling Admiral’s colleagues to deal with a higher percentage of real crash notifications. This drives efficiency by giving much quicker liability results and an efficient claims journey for Admiral policyholders.

Vodafone will also provide Admiral with a number of extra services, such as a managed stolen vehicle recovery service, which will use Vodafone’s existing network of secure operating centres across Europe.

Lockdown didn’t thwart car thieves, but Vodafone did

From bargain bangers to pricey Bentleys, Vodafone Automotive tracked and helped recover hundreds of stolen motors across the world in 2020. One continental crime involving a Mercedes (like the one pictured) stretched from Milan to Stockholm.

Gemma Barsby, Head of IoT, Vodafone UK said, “As the global leader in IoT connectivity, we understand the potential it has to change the way we all do business. The extension of our seven-year relationship with Admiral is a testament to our working partnership to drive innovation in car insurance, creating a more rewarding experience for Admiral’s customers.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Admiral to help them continue to lead the UK telematics market.

Paul Taylor, Head of Telematics, Admiral Insurance said: ’We are excited to continue our innovative partnership with Vodafone, rewarding safe driving using insightful and accurate driving data, while providing an efficient claims solution for accident notification and theft recovery services, helping us to provide an all-round excellent telematics service to our customers.’’
