Vodafone UK on track to fully electrify car fleet by 2026

Vodafone UK is set to fully electrify its car fleet by 2026 – one year ahead of schedule – as part of Vodafone Group’s broader commitment to achieving net zero emissions across its operations by 2030.

The milestone sees Vodafone fulfil its ambition of transitioning its car fleet to zero emissions vehicles earlier than scheduled, having originally set a target of 2027.

This timeframe was first outlined in 2019, as Vodafone created a transition project alongside vehicle leasing partner Arval UK.

Arval UK helped introduce battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) to the fleet in 2019, supported by ride and drive events, as well as webinars designed to educate employees on the advantages of BEVs.

The education of drivers has been a crucial part of this process, with Arval UK’s sessions covering factors such as taxation, charging and range.

Craig Login, Property Contract Manager, Vodafone UK, said: “We have been pursuing a determined electrification strategy for our car fleet, driven by both our overall corporate environmental objectives and demands from drivers for zero emissions options.

“With the help of Arval UK, we adopted a very structured approach to electrification, looking at everything from detailed whole-life cost modelling through to regularly meeting with manufacturers to ensure the latest electric cars meeting our needs were available.”

In 2020, just 16% of the company’s car fleet were BEVs, with PHEVs comprising 29%. Petrol and diesel cars were then removed from choice lists altogether in 2021, with plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) following in 2023.

Arval UK then created a BEV salary sacrifice scheme in 2023, delivering the 300th vehicle under this initiative in June 2025. As of 2026, Vodafone UK will be operating 100% BEVs.

Vodafone UK’s sustainability progress in numbers

With Vodafone UK having recently collected various awards for its sustainability achievements, we explore the numbers behind the work – and how it all adds up to a more promising environmental future.

Huw Mellor, Business Manager, Arval UK, said: “Vodafone’s corporate decision to achieve net zero emissions has been one of the most rewarding partnerships that we have been involved with in recent years.

“The speed with which full electrification has been achieved is undeniably impressive, and we are very pleased to have made our contribution to this project.”

As a whole, the programme offers employees a financially efficient way to access BEVs, alongside high-power charging facilities across all office locations, underlying Vodafone’s commitment to electrification.
