Vodafone’s Steve Knibbs to chair techUK National Security Committee

Steve Knibbs, Vodafone’s cybersecurity tsar, will chair the tech industry body that lends expertise to the UK Government.

Steve Knibbs, head of Vodafone Business Security Enhanced (VBSE), will serve as the chair of techUK’s first-ever National Security Committee.

The trade association’s Committee is a forum in which 20 senior representatives from strategically important tech companies can lend their views and expertise on national security issues to each other and to the UK Government.

The Committee can, for example, advise on how tech stacks up against key national security challenges. Mr Knibbs, who oversees Vodafone’s division providing vital but highly confidential cybersecurity and network security services, has served in the Royal Signals Parachute squadron, in GCHQ and has experience as a networking engineer.

Mr Knibbs said: “Security has always been a key focus for Vodafone, which is why we have our dedicated Vodafone Business Security Enhanced specialist unit, with 25-plus years securing Critical National Infrastructure organisations, Government departments, defence contractors and transport/utility companies.

“I’m proud and excited to be chairing techUK’s first National Security Committee, enabling us at Vodafone to bring our security expertise to the table and support the Government in strengthening UK National Security.”
