Vodafone has launched Scam Call Protection, a new feature which uses AI to identify and flag potentially fraudulent, spam, scam and nuisance calls to its mobile customers before they pick up – now included in its all-in-one digital security service, Secure Net Mobile.
Working automatically in the background and built directly into the Vodafone network, the feature analyses incoming calls in real time, spotting suspicious behaviour and flagging high‑risk numbers to the customer.
AI-enhanced scams: how to protect yourself
Cybercriminals who use AI to defraud people sound intimidating and impossible to defend against, but protecting yourself is straightforward according to cybersecurity expert Dr Katie Paxton-Fear.
If a call appears unusual, customers will receive a simple on‑screen alert flagging it as a potential scam call – putting them firmly in control of whether to pick up or decline.
Scam Call Protection further strengthens the existing features of Vodafone Secure Net Mobile which includes advanced parental controls, 24/7 ID monitoring to help guard against identity theft, and real‑time virus and malware protection. With Scam Call Protection joining these existing tools, Secure Net Mobile provides a unified defense that protects customers at every touchpoint – from incoming calls to online activity – without requiring additional apps or complex setup. Secure Net Mobile is available to Vodafone mobile customers free for the first three months, and then £2 a month thereafter.
Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director at VodafoneThree, said: “Scam calls are becoming increasingly harder to spot, and it’s easy to feel caught off guard. Scam Call Protection on Vodafone Secure Net Mobile gives customers an extra layer of reassurance – constantly working in the background to monitor calls, and flagging known and suspected scam calls. The introduction of Scam Call Protection strengthens our commitment to provide comprehensive built‑in digital security, helping people feel safer, more informed and more in control of their digital world.”
How to stay safe online
Cybersecurity doesn’t have to be confusing or difficult if you follow these ten straightforward tips.
- Real‑time detection: Round–the–clock monitoring analyses incoming calls and identifies potential spam or nuisance callers.
- Automatic flagging: Known scam numbers are flagged directly to the customer.
- Clear notifications: If a call looks suspicious, customers receive an on‑screen alert explaining the call type, helping them decide whether to answer or decline.
- Part of Secure Net: Scam Call Protection is included within the Secure Net Mobile service, alongside advanced parental controls, ID monitoring and malware protection – all designed to keep customers safer across their digital lives.
- No action needed: Secure Net customers will immediately benefit from Scam Call Protection, which from 15 April 2026 will automatically work in the background for all Secure Net Mobile customers.
