Vodafone has put speed to the ultimate test, challenging Britain’s fastest woman, Dina Asher-Smith, to race its new Vodafone SuperMobileTM plan with speeds up to 4x faster than standard plans on the UK’s fastest 5G+ network.

Having clocked a British record of 21.88 seconds over 200m, Dina knows a thing or two about speed. And with music playing a big role in getting her race-ready, the challenge was simple: could Vodafone SuperMobile download Dina’s 150-track training playlist before she completed a 200m sprint? To beat her record time, Vodafone SuperMobile would need to download nearly seven songs every second.

Donning her spikes and taking to the track, Dina went head-to-head with SuperMobile, putting it through its paces in a race against the clock. It was close: SuperMobile downloaded Dina’s 150-track playlist in just 21.2 seconds. That’s around nine hours of music – enough music to soundtrack an entire flight to Mumbai or Barbados, or a full day at work and the commute home.

Dina Asher-Smith said: “As a sprinter, every second counts, so I was genuinely impressed that SuperMobile managed to beat me! Speed is obviously a huge part of my life, both on and off the track, and music plays a big role in my training and getting me ready to run fast. Whether I’m downloading a playlist or sharing training videos on the go, I want my mobile plan to keep up.”

Super-fast speeds aren’t just in demand for Olympians. New research from Vodafone shows that fast, reliable connectivity matters beyond the racetrack, revealing almost two-thirds of Brits (63%) value it more than ever, whether to connect with friends and family (32%), enjoy entertainment (30%) or staying connected on the go (25%).

And when connectivity doesn’t keep up, the frustration is real. More than a quarter of Brits (26%) say they get frustrated when payments won’t process, buffering maps leave them lost (21%), videos won’t play (19%) or playlists won’t download (10%).

But a slow connection can mean more than just waiting around. Two-in-five (40%) saying they have lost out on something important because their connection was too slow, including 14% who have missed out on online shopping deals or items selling out, food delivery slots (11%), appointments (10%) and even festival tickets (9%).

A Vodafone spokesperson says: “If you’re going to test Vodafone SuperMobile, you need someone who knows a thing or two about speed. Dina is the fastest British woman ever, making her the perfect person to take on our new super-fast mobile plan.

Powered by our new 5G+ FastTrackTM, on the UK’s fastest 5G+ network, Vodafone SuperMobile gives customers speeds up to four times faster than standard plans, along with guaranteed minimum speeds. It’s all about helping customers spend less time waiting and more time doing, particularly when network demand is high”.

Whether it’s downloading a playlist, securing tickets before they sell out or streaming content on the move, Vodafone SuperMobile helps customers stay connected when it matters most, combining faster speeds, guaranteed minimum speeds, and advanced security in a single mobile experience designed around performance, reliability and peace of mind.

How does 5G+ FastTrack work? 5G+ FastTrack uses a new technology called network slicing. In simple terms, this creates a dedicated “slice” on the network for your data, helping it move faster and more reliably, especially when lots of people are online at the same time.

You don’t need to do anything. It’s automatically active when you’re connected to our 5G+ FastTrack on a Vodafone SuperMobile plan and eligible phone. You can check when you’ll have 5G+ FastTrack connectivity on our network status checker page.

The UK’s only plan with guaranteed minimum speeds: If it does not deliver, you are free to leave without penalty: Only Vodafone SuperMobile plans combine a minimum guaranteed download speed with the ability to leave your Airtime Plan without paying an early termination charge, provided you meet certain criteria and if Vodafone confirms the applicable minimum guaranteed speed is not being achieved and is unable to rectify the issue within 30 days. The Nation’s Network is the combined Vodafone and Three network: The Nation’s Network: means the biggest mobile network infrastructure created by VodafoneThreeHoldings Ltd through the merger of Vodafone & Hutchison 3G UK. Vodafone’s 5G+ Local Slicing

5G+ Local Slicing delivers a private high-performance network lane built around the needs of business and public sector customers. Operating on VodafoneThree’s 5G Standalone network, 5G+ Local Slicing brings guaranteed performance across a defined site or local area up to 5km2.

Network slicing allows the creation of different virtual networks on the public infrastructure, each dedicated to a particular service, ensuring performance is not impacted by other users’ demands.

Crucially, the performance capabilities of each slice can be customised to different use cases, combining low latency and high bandwidth to unlock endless opportunities.
