Actor and comedian Munya Chawawa features in Vodafone’s new online safety campaign, in which he helps families stay safe online by addressing some of today’s most important child safety questions.
Known for the colourful cast of characters he depicts in online sketches, the ‘Brave the Chat’ campaign sees Munya pose as an online safety expert who is here to help educate families.
While subsequent videos will involve the comedian tackling topics such as gaming, online scams, AI and content creation, the first video in the series focuses on how to deal with your child’s first phone.
The episode begins with Munya reminiscing about his own first phone – a classic Nokia 3310 – before he presents a father and his son with a more modern device, alongside some useful advice, such as:
- The importance of setting up your child’s first phone together
- Making sure your child uses their real age on any online accounts
- Showing your child where focus mode is for when they need to concentrate on tasks like homework
- Continuing to have conversations together about staying safe online
Vodafone and NSPCC: TRUST toolkit
Munya also points to Vodafone’s TRUST toolkit, created in partnership with the NSPCC, which helps families safely navigate the journey that starts when a child receives their first phone.
The toolkit contains useful information and activities as well a family phone pledge to help families agree on rules and boundaries for how their child should use their new phone.
