The company’s leader in the UK credited the win at the Mobile Industry Awards 2023 to the many teams throughout the firm.
Ahmed Essam, CEO, Vodafone UK, has been recognised as Person of the Year by the Mobile Industry Awards 2023. The MIAs are one of the most high-profile in the UK telecoms industry.
The title recognises all that the company has accomplished under Essam’s leadership, from network technology innovations to its digital inclusion initiatives and unique approach to event sponsorships. It also acknowledges the ambitious investment strategy which lies behind the company’s proposed merger with Three UK.

The scope of Vodafone’s achievements under Ahmed’s leadership have been mirrored in the spread of both the varying initiatives and the many other company executives also recognised in the Power 50.
Vodafone’s provision of a 5G network slice for ITN to use in the capital during the King’s Coronation was hailed as the 5G Innovation of the Year at Mobile Industry Awards, and elsewhere managed to pick up the Industrial Innovation Award at Connected Britain 2023 in the same week. For the second year running, the company was recognized as the best place to work.

ITN's coverage of the Coronation of King Charles III will be the first UK broadcast enabled by a public 5G SA network.
Vodafone’s ‘everyone.connected’ digital inclusion campaign was nominated for the CSR Initiative of the Year, while the reliability and speed of the company’s mobile network were nominated for Best Network for Business and Best Network of the Year. Vodafone employee Kimberly Court was named Shop Idol in the retail category.
The company also won the award for B2B Service Provider of the Year.
Other notable milestones, in 2023 alone, include the recognition of Vodafone’s mobile network as London’s Best Network, adding to its list of garlands. Vodafone’s partnership with Wimbledon allowed it to show how technology can empower the differently abled to enjoy public events along with everyone else. EVO, the company’s flexible ‘split’ approach to pay monthly mobile contracts, has been bolstered with the Lifetime Service Promise.
The company and its leaders have been recognised by the MIAs before in previous years.
