Vodafone’s reliable network delivered consistently fast speeds at both summer events despite a doubling of mobile data use compared to 2019, while 5G usage at Wimbledon also surged.
Vodafone’s 5G network delivered maximum download speeds of 311Mbps at Wimbledon, despite record-breaking demand from its mobile customers attending the world-famous tennis tournament.
Although the public’s appetite for mobile data doubled compared to the 2019 tournament, Vodafone’s 5G and 4G network was consistently fast at 12 locations chosen as testing points dotted across the grounds. A temporary mast, as well as mini masts, helped meet the demand from the tens of thousands of visitors.

A quarter of all mobile data sent and received over Vodafone’s network at The Championships was over 5G. This is a notable UK milestone for the network technology which is designed to cope with huge volumes of data in crowded places.
Vodafone’s temporary mast at Wimbledon combined the company’s efficient use of mobile spectrum with massive MIMO technology, which uses multiple antennas to serve large numbers of people.

At the BST Hyde Park music festival, as with Wimbledon, public demand for mobile data doubled compared to the 2019 festival. Although visitor numbers soared to as many as 65,000 people a day, the Vodafone network was consistently fast at 15 locations chosen as testing points spread across the festival area. Download speeds were as high as 202Mbps.
