Vodafone director nominated for ‘Oscars of veteran employment’

As head of Vodafone Business Security Enhanced, Steve Knibbs oversees the provision of highly confidential cybersecurity and network security services.

Steve Knibbs, head of Vodafone Business Security Enhanced (VBSE), has been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2024 British Ex-Forces in Business Awards.

Dubbed the ‘Oscars of veteran employment’, the seventh edition of the world’s largest celebration of military veterans in second careers will take place on 27 June, 2024.

Knibbs is in the running to win the Business Leader of the Year (Large Company) award. BBC Newsnight presenter Victoria Derbyshire will host the ceremony at Grosvenor House in London.

Knibbs, having served as telecommunications engineer for the British Army between 1994 and 2004, has since worked at Vodafone for more than 13 years.

As head of VBSE, he leads a specialised division of Vodafone responsible for delivering complex managed services to both the public and private sectors, having secured Critical National Infrastructure organisations, government departments, defence contractors and transport/utility companies.

In March 2023, he was appointed chair of techUK’s first ever National Security Committee, a forum that counsels on national security issues for tech companies and the UK Government.

As part of the Armed Forces Covenant, Vodafone UK holds a ‘Gold Award’ in the employer recognition scheme. Meanwhile, employees can join the Armed Forces Network, which offers support such as 10 days Training Allowance with full pay for Reservists, as well as workshops for veterans discharged as wounded, injured or sick (WIS).
