Vodafone, The Official Connectivity Partner of Glastonbury Festival, has revealed that data traffic usage was up by almost 25% this year from 2024, as fans shared all their favourite moments across the weekend. To ensure Festival-goers had the best possible experience, Vodafone’s reliable award-winning network* was boosted to the highest capacity ever, with eleven temporary masts placed around Worthy Farm.

The Official Glastonbury app, powered by Vodafone, saw 250,000 total downloads, from Festival-goers onsite and those enjoying the event at home – an all-time Vodafone record.

Moo-sic festivals 2023: how COWs made a summer of strong signal

Ensuring special events, from Glastonbury to the Henley Regatta, get mobile signal requires a fleet of special equipment, planning ahead by a year and eagle-eyed monitoring.

This year, step count tracking was added to the ‘My Highlights’ post-Festival wrap in the app, so Festival-goers could track how much ground they covered across Glastonbury’s epic 900-acre site – from the Pyramid Stage all the way to SE corner. Overall, fans logged a mind-blowing 3 billion steps combined, equating to approximately 378,787 miles (609,598km) and the equivalent of walking around the Earth’s equator over 15 times. Of those who logged their steps on the app, the average step count per person was 114,000 steps, which equates to walking over 50 miles (80km) or close to walking from London to Brighton.

An impressive 198,000 total line-ups were created, and each personal line-up had an average of 41 artists added as Festival-goers plotted out their must-see acts for the weekend. What’s more, 54,000 Festival-goers made use of the new ‘Add to Favourites’ feature, helping them distinguish between their locked line-up and their top considerations at a glance, and helping them navigate the incredible stacked line-up and huge array of star-studded performances on offer. What’s more, over 157,000 custom pins were created and 7,400 pins were shared, helping fans find everything from their tent to their favourite food truck.

To help Festival-goers discover new artists, people connected the app to their Spotify account to source personalised recommendations of artists performing at the Festival, based on their listening habits.

Andrea Dona, Chief Network Officer, VodafoneThree said: “As The Nation’s Network, we’re all about connecting fans to some of the best events across the Summer. Once again, we boosted our network to its highest capacity ever at Worthy Farm because we know how important it is for Festival-goers to be able to easily connect with family and friends and share their favourite Festival moments.

“I look forward to delivering even more for fans and customers across the summer and beyond.”

Vodafone once again offered Festival-goers the chance to test out the Vodafone network through its eSIM network trial, all for free and without having to change their number. Almost 15,000 people ordered an eSIM from The Nation’s Network.

Over 10,000 people bought power banks at Vodafone’s Connect & Charge tent on-site. For every one of those, Vodafone donated free connectivity, tech and skills to charities in the local area as part of its everyone.connected campaign – providing Glastonbury-goers the chance to give back to the local community. Before the Festival, Vodafone also committed to matching the daily average step count from this year’s Festival with a donation to the campaign. The company will be making 75,000 donations from this initiative.

Vodafone is the Official Connectivity Partner of Glastonbury Festival, using its network to deliver innovative experiences using cutting-edge technology – with everything from its incredible Official Glastonbury App to the eSIM network trial.
