Vodafone Essentials Broadband: Everything you need to know

As the cost of living crisis continues, Vodafone is offering a ‘social broadband tariff’ of £20 a month so the financially vulnerable can still get WiFi and internet access at home. Here’s what you need to know.

Vodafone Essentials Broadband is a fast, reliable and affordable service. It costs just £20 a month, with download speeds of up to 73Mbps, to help you stay connected during difficult times.

Who can get Vodafone Essentials Broadband?

Anyone receiving one of the following state benefits can get the service:

  • Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Universal Credit
  • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Existing Vodafone customers that have been identified as financially vulnerable can also get the service.

I have another Vodafone broadband package. Can I get Essentials Broadband?

Current subscribers on either Fibre 1 or Fibre 2 (previously known as Superfast 1 and Superfast 2), and who meet any of the criteria listed above, can move to Vodafone Essentials Broadband. Current subscribers of a Pro Broadband plan may be charged to leave their plan early.

What are the other benefits of Vodafone Essentials Broadband?

There’s no set-up fee and there’s the certainty that there won’t be any in-contract price changes. Customers can also leave at any time, with no early termination fees. The service lasts for 12 months.

What happens after 12 months?

After 12 months you can continue your Vodafone Essentials contract, as long as you still qualify for one or more of the listed government benefits and the plan is still available. If not, you can choose one of our standard broadband plans or leave without charge. We will contact you with your options before your contract ends. If no action is taken, you will move to out-of-contract pricing of £30 a month.

How can I sign up for Vodafone Essentials Broadband?

Visit the Vodafone UK website to sign up for Vodafone Essentials Broadband. There, you’ll be able to check whether Vodafone can provide broadband in your postcode area. Once you’ve completed and submitted the online form, you’ll receive a confirmation email. A member of Vodafone’s dedicated team will call you to confirm your eligibility and process your order. This should take about a week.

Alternatively, visit a Vodafone UK store or call our customer service team.

What if I need help paying the bills?

If you’ve missed a payment or are struggling to pay your next bill, please contact Vodafone’s  customer care team and we’ll figure things out together.

What about mobile?

VOXI For Now is available for £10 a month, offering unlimited minutes, texts and 5G data for up to six months. This plan would otherwise cost £35 a month. Anyone who receives one of the five state benefits mentioned above can get VOXI For Now. There’s no credit check as there’s no contract to sign.

Vodafone enhances VOXI For Now social tariff to boost support for those in financial hardship

The VOXI For Now tariff, on Vodafone’s VOXI brand, will give unlimited 5G data, calls and texts for just £10 a month to anyone receiving benefits.

With VOXI For Now and Essentials Broadband, Vodafone is the only UK network operator offering social tariffs for both mobile and home broadband.

Vodafone’s everyone.connected campaign has also been providing SIM cards, through its charity partners, to people who wouldn’t be online at all.
