A trio of powerful women spoke to a standing room-only audience at Vodafone UK’s London offices to mark International Women’s Day 2025.
Myleene Klass, campaigner for women & children, musician and broadcaster.
“For me, International Women’s Day is so important because the fact that we have to mark out a day to make sure that everybody is getting either the attention that what they’re creating requires or, just the acknowledgement in general, or the help.
“I mean, it shouldn’t even be a day that we need to mark out. But until everybody’s across the finishing line, we need that. I’d like to have a year. We need longer than one day.”
Nihal Newman, Ofcom’s Director of Network Security & Resilience Policy.
“So I would use the example of my own career, and I’d use the analogy of a tree, because I think that is a great way to demonstrate how I’ve chosen different pathways, and I’ve leveraged the skills and the strengths that I have.
“So don’t take no for an answer. If one door shuts, there’s always another door.”
Nicki Lyons, Vodafone UK’s Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer
“We just finished a fantastic International Women’s Day event here at Vodafone UK. We had two fantastic speakers. We invited Myleene Klass to talk about her award winning work, fighting for justice for women who’ve had miscarriages. And Nihal Newman, who is the DEI champion at our regulator Ofcom. We had a really amazing conversation.
“They were both incredibly honest about their experiences, about the need for allyship, about the need to advocate for women and for diversity more broadly. And we talked a lot about resilience, about making sure the ladder stays down firmly for other women to benefit from our experiences and have a better experience themselves as we get to gender parity in the workplace.”
