5G+FastTrack, how does itwork? 5G+ FastTrack combines four advanced network technologies for an enhanced network experience including network slicing. In simple terms, this creates a dedicated “slice” on the network for customers’ data, helping it move faster and more reliably, especially when there is high demand.

Customers don’t need to do anything. It’s automatically active when they’re connected to 5G+ FastTrack on a Vodafone SuperMobile plan and eligible phone. Based on publicly available information vs comparable UK mobile network consumer plans, August 2026.

Operating on VodafoneThree’s 5G Standalone network, 5G+ Local Slicing brings guaranteed performance across a defined site or local area up to 5km2. Network slicing allows the creation of different virtual networks on the public infrastructure, each dedicated to a particular service, ensuring performance is not impacted by other users’ demands. Crucially, the performance capabilities of each slice can be customised to different use cases, combining low latency and high bandwidth to unlock endless opportunities.

What is 5G?

Short for the ‘fifth generation’ wireless mobile network, 5G is the most advanced iteration of our global mobile networking standard. It gives customers access to much higher download and upload speeds as well as lower latency – the times it takes for a connected service to respond to your command. 5G also has far greater capacity, enabling many more people to get a signal even in very crowded areas, such as football stadia and railway stations.

What is the difference between 4G and 5G?

By combining newer radio technology, improved network infrastructure and access to additional spectrum, 5G can deliver faster, more reliable performance than traditional 4G networks. Whereas 4G offers 23-35Mbps (megabits per second) on average, the potential with 5G is up to 10 times faster than that, depending on how it’s deployed.

While 4G made mobile streaming and video calling commonplace, 5G takes things further with faster speeds, near-instant responsiveness, and the ability to connect many more devices at once. That means smoother streaming, quicker downloads and a better gaming experience.

It also enables advanced capabilities like network slicing, which allows different types of traffic to be prioritised, helping to maintain reliable performance for services like video calls and gaming – even during busy periods.

What is 5G Standalone?

The 5G network, as it currently exists in most of the UK, only uses upgraded technology in the masts. This is known as 5G Non-standalone (5G NSA). With 5G Standalone, the servers in the core network, as well as the RedStream fibre optic backbone connecting those servers to the masts and to the wider internet, will have been upgraded, too. As a result, 5G SA is a more powerful and reliable form of 5G. Vodafone 5G SA also uses radio waves that have a higher frequency.

While current 5G services already offer impressive speeds – typically between 150–200 Mbps, perfect for smooth 4K streaming and high-quality video calls – 5GSA takes things further. It can deliver speeds around ten times faster than 4G, extend battery life by up to 25%, and provide broader, more reliable coverage.

Vodafone’s 5G SA – now called Vodafone 5G+ – is the UK’s fastest 5G+, with superior speeds and capacity compared to other major network providers. This is because Vodafone’s 5G SA uses higher-frequency radio waves and has more of them, which gives greater capacity and faster speeds than other major networks that either rely on lower-frequency radio waves and don’t have as many radio waves at higher frequencies – or both.
