Got an iPhone you’d like to trade in?

To get a guaranteed saving of £15 a month, you’ll need to trade in:

•    iPhone X
•    iPhone XS
•    iPhone XS Max
•    iPhone XR

Or to get a guaranteed saving of £5 a month, trade in:

•    iPhone 8 – over the phone or in-store only
•    iPhone 8 Plus – over the phone or in-store only

Your phone must be in good working condition. This means:

  • It powers on to the home screen
  • There are no more than three cracks or scratches – if there are any, they can be no longer than 10mm
  • The touchscreen is fully functional, e.g. responds correctly to directional swipes and selecting keyboard letters and apps

You can use your trade-in saving for iPhone 12 range on any 24-month plan. 

To get a saving of £15 a month, you’ll need to trade in:

To get a saving of £5 a month, you’ll need to trade in:

•    iPhone 8
•    iPhone 8 Plus

Note:  iPhone 8 and 8 Plus must be traded in over the phone or in store – you won’t be able to do it online. But iPhone X, XS, XS Max and XR can be traded in online.

In order to get a monthly trade-in saving, your phone needs to be in good condition.

At the beginning of your purchase journey, you’ll see a list of criteria that your phone needs to meet in order for it to pass our trade-in checks. So you’ll be made aware in advance if it can be traded in or not.

You can then use our Trade-in Tool on the My Vodafone app to review the condition of your phone – if it passes our checks, we’ll give you instant confirmation of your guaranteed saving. This can be done before or after you check out.

Your saving is applied immediately at the point of purchase.

You’ll need to pass the checks in our Trade-in Tool within two days of your purchase. Once you’ve passed our checks, you’ll need to send your phone to us in the return pack we send you.

If you don’t pass our trade-in checks or return your phone to us within 14 days, your saving will be removed.

Your saving will be applied to your monthly bill for the duration of your 24-month plan.

Don’t worry, you won’t lose out – should you choose to upgrade early with the Annual Upgrade Promise, we’ll credit you with the remaining saving amount.

We can only accept one phone for our promotional trade-in monthly saving. But you can go to Vodafone Trade-in to trade in other devices for a cash payment.

Your phone needs to be in good working condition in order to trade it in for a guaranteed saving.

Our Trade-in Tool will check that your phone meets all these criteria:

 

•        It powers on to the home screen

•        It has no more than three scratches or cracks – if there are any scratches or cracks, these can be no longer than 10mm

•        The touchscreen is fully functional, e.g. responds correctly to directional swipes and selecting keyboard letters and apps

To access our Trade-in Tool, open the My Vodafone app and scroll down to the Assistance menu. Then select Trade in your device.

You’ll need to use our Trade-in Tool to check that your phone is in good working condition and can be traded in.

Once you've passed the checks, we’ll send you a return pack. Put your phone in this pack and return it to us within 14 days – either in store or using the free, pre-paid postage enclosed in the return pack. Make sure you get proof of postage.

Please remember, we can’t accept your phone back without the returns pack.

If you’d like to return your phone to us in store, you’ll be pleased to know we’ve re-opened some of our retail stores. Find out if your nearest store is open

Our stores are following Government advice and we’ve taken all the appropriate measures you’d expect to make our stores as safe as possible for customers and staff.

If you’d prefer not to return your phone to us in-store, you can post it to us using the returns pack we send you.

Yes, you can. You’ll have 14 days to return your phone to us. So if you’re returning your phone to us by post, you’ll receive your new phone before you trade-in your old one.

We recommend that you’re 100% happy with your new phone and plan before returning your old phone to us.

If you’re returning your old phone in store, we’ll do a swap immediately. If your new phone is currently out of stock and you’re waiting for it to be available, you can keep your current phone until your new one arrives.

Once you’re ready to trade in, you can do so either in store or by pre-paid postage using the returns pack we sent you.

You can choose not to return your phone to us within the 14-day returns period and we’ll simply remove the saving that was applied to your bill.

Once you reach the ‘Enter your mobile number’ stage of the Trade-in Tool, you’ll need to enter your Vodafone mobile number. This should be the phone number you're using with your new phone.

If you can’t complete the steps in the Trade-in Tool, come and see us in store where one of our advisers will be able to help you.

You’ll have 14 days to return your phone to us, so we recommend that you’re 100% happy with your new phone before you trade in your old one.

We can’t return your old phone to you if you’ve already traded it in.

We give your old phone a second life. This helps to lower carbon emissions by avoiding it being turned into electronic waste. So you can feel good knowing you’re getting a great deal while doing your bit for the environment.

Legal terms

We give you an instant guarantee of your saving on the iPhone 12 once you’ve completed the Trade-In Tool checks, provided that: (i) your device matches the one you specify in the Trade-In Tool checks and you return that device to us; (ii) your device hasn’t been intentionally damaged; and (iii) you remove any security settings (such as Find My iPhone) from your device.

We expect to reuse at least 5000 devices in other propositions, which will mean we’ll not be destroying/scrapping these devices.

Our previous trade-in process (iPhone 2019 trade-in offer) could take up to four weeks. After receiving their handset, which could take up to one to two weeks, the customer then had 14 days to return their old phone to us, and wait for confirmation of a pass or fail up to three days later.
