Refurbished phones

A refurbished phone is a second-hand device which is ready for resale in top working condition.  

Many of the refurbished phones that we sell are unused - they’ve been bought brand new and returned to us within 14 days because the original buyer changed their mind. 

All of our Pay monthly refurbished phones come with the UK's only Lifetime Service Promise, which includes Battery Refresh and Lifetime Warranty at no extra cost, plus they're Vodafone Assured - this means they have a 32-point health check to ensure they're in full working order. 

They're fully sanitised and any data left on them is totally wiped. And, for complete peace of mind, there’s a 14-day no quibble return policy. 

To reduce waste, our refurbished phones are shipped in recycled packaging containing your chosen device and a charging cable – the same equipment you would receive when buying brand new.

When you get your refurbished phone, it will have undergone a 32-point health check to ensure it's in full working order and ready for you to enjoy.

Although we can't predict how long your refurbished phone will last, you can rest assured that we'll cover your device for repairs against manufacturer faults for as long as you have a Pay monthly Airtime Plan with us and you'll get battery health checks and replacements for up to three years, thanks to our Lifetime Service Promise.

A life cycle assessment study (Pamminger, R., Glaser, S. and Wimmer, W., Modelling of different circular end-of-use scenarios for smartphones. International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment (2021) 26:470-482) found that a refurbished phone (used for an average 1.93 years) can have a 55% lower contribution to climate change (or 'GWP') compared to a new phone (used for 2.5 years) (according to the study results shown on page 479).

Based on this study, buying and using a refurbished phone can be considered to be friendlier for the planet in comparison to buying and using a new phone, because it has a lower negative impact on climate change.

Our refurbished phones come in two types of condition: Pristine or Great.

Our refurbished phones in Pristine condition have no visible signs of use on the casing or the screen, whereas our refurbished phones in Great condition have minor signs of use on the casing or the screen, such as light marks or barely visible scratches.

We only offer high-quality refurbished handsets in ‘Great’ or ‘Pristine’ condition - so you’ll get the full functionality of a brand-new phone with minor cosmetic signs of use, depending on the grade you choose.

Each of our refurbished phones is thoroughly tested to ensure they are in top working condition and contain little to no visible signs of use.

If you're eligible for Lifetime Service Promise, this means you have Lifetime Warranty and Battery Refresh included at no extra cost as part of your Phone Plan.

What's Lifetime Warranty?

We'll cover your device for repairs against manufacturer faults for as long as you have a Pay monthly Airtime Plan with us. See terms and conditions

What's Battery Refresh?

If our Battery Refresh Tool shows your phone battery is struggling to keep up, we'll replace it. Simply visit us in store and we'll send it off to be replaced, free of charge. Our Battery Refresh covers you for two to three years, dependent on the length of your plan. See terms and conditions

Who's eligible for Lifetime Service Promise?

Any customer who bought a phone on Vodafone EVO from 26 July 2023 onwards is eligible for Lifetime Service Promise. This includes all refurbished phones.

Vodafone Assured: means that all refurbished devices had a full diagnostic, visual check and deep clean by our third party refurbished suppliers.

Each device has had a number of extensive tests performed, to ensure it is fully functional - checking various components of the device, such as the screen, battery, camera ensuring it is 100% fully functional. Cosmetic checks are performed to determine if the device is either excellent or great. More details on the checks on the below table.

Device Plan: means devices purchased from Vodafone under a Consumer Credit Agreement such as phones (Phone Plan), smartwatches (Watch Plan), tablets (Tablet Plan) and laptops (Laptop Plan).

Vodafone EVO:

• For Mobile: lets you select a monthly Device Plan Credit Agreement (3-36 months) with a monthly Airtime Plan. Phone Plans over 12 months require a 24-month Monthly Airtime Plan. You can pay off your Device Plan early, and if you do, you can then keep your Airtime Plan on a 30-day contract or leave. If your Airtime Plan ends for any reason, you will need to keep on paying your monthly Device Plan (either in full or monthly)

Upgrade from month 3: means a) buying a new Device Plan (which is a credit agreement) and an Airtime/Data/Connectivity Plan (as applicable) and b) either (i) paying off the remaining amount on your current Device Plan prior to upgrading, or (ii) paying for your current Device Plan along with your new Device Plan. Subject to credit check, eligibility and terms.

Trade-in Guarantee: Available when you trade-in an eligible device using our Trade-in Tool, and purchase a new Vodafone Pay Monthly Airtime Plan. Your Trade-in value is guaranteed for 7 days from the date of your Trade-in Quote. Device must be returned within 14 days of the start of your new Airtime Plan and meet our requirements. Roaming

Roaming: using your home data plan to roam in Zone A is included in all of our Pay Monthly plans. For roaming in other destinations, charges will apply depending on which plan you are on.

Roaming Passes: For Pay Monthly customers without European roaming included in their plan, you can purchase an 8 or 15 day European roaming pass to use your monthly UK allowance of calls, texts and data in our Zone B destinations. The 8 day pass is £10 and the 15 day pass is £15. Out of bundle charges such as picture messages, premium calls or premium texts are not covered by this charge.
