Frequently asked questions
No, not all phones support 5G. However, 5G is now widely available across most new smartphones from major manufacturers, such as Apple, Samsung and Google. Many mid-range models now include 5G as standard as well, which means you can experience Vodafone's 5G network across a range of devices and budgets.
Phones released before 2019 typically only support 4G. If you're unsure whether your current phone has 5G, check your device settings to see if 5G appears as an option.
The quickest way is to check your phone's settings. Look for network or mobile data options - the exact location varies by phone brand and model, but if 5G appears as a network option, your phone supports it.
You can also check your phone's original specifications. Look for '5G' listed under connectivity or network bands. Most phones from 2019 onwards include 5G, while earlier models typically support 4G only.

Yes, most Vodafone SIM cards support 5G. If you're already a Vodafone customer with a standard Pay monthly or SIM only plan, your current SIM should work with 5G - you just need a 5G-compatible phone and to be in an area with 5G coverage.
All our SIM only and Pay monthly plans now include 5G as standard. Simply pop your existing SIM into a 5G phone, and you’re ready to go.
If you're on a Vodafone Basics plan, you'll need to upgrade to access 5G, as these plans use our 4G network only. Check out our SIM only or Pay monthly plans to get 5G connectivity.
No, 5G doesn't cost extra at Vodafone. All our SIM only or Pay monthly plans now include 5G as standard at no additional charge - you'll pay the same monthly price whether you're using 4G or 5G.
The only exception is our Vodafone Basics range, which are budget-friendly 4G-only plans. If you'd like access to our 5G network, simply choose one of our Red or Unlimited plans instead.
So if you already have a 5G-compatible phone and you’re in an area with 5G coverage, you can enjoy faster speeds with no price difference.

Roaming
Roaming: using your home data plan to roam in Zone A is included in all of our Pay Monthly plans. For roaming in other destinations, charges will apply depending on which plan you are on.
Roaming Passes: For Pay Monthly customers without European roaming included in their plan, you can purchase an 8 or 15 day European roaming pass to use your monthly UK allowance of calls, texts and data in our Zone B destinations. The 8 day pass is £16 and the 15 day pass is £21. Out of bundle charges such as picture messages, premium calls or premium texts are not covered by this charge.
