        Frequently asked questions

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra became available to pre-order on 22 July 2026. It launched on 7 August 2026.

Check it out in person in your nearest Vodafone store

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy.

This is Qualcomm’s latest flagship mobile chip, tuned specifically for Samsung’s Galaxy range. The chip and software are designed to work together, so you get reliable performance across all tasks.

        What this means in practice:

        • AI tasks running across multiple apps at once

        • Smooth multitasking on the large 8-inch main screen

        • No slowdown when running demanding apps

Yes, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra supports 5G. It can also connect to 5G+, Vodafone’s end-to-end standalone 5G network, built entirely on 5G technology. 5G+ is different from standard 5G:

        • Standard 5G still relies on 4G infrastructure to work. It uses the existing 4G network as a backbone, which limits how fast and reliable the connection can be

        • 5G+ is built entirely on 5G technology from end to end, with no 4G infrastructure involved

        5G+ offers:

        • Faster speeds, as there is no 4G bottleneck slowing things down

        • Lower latency, meaning less delay between sending and receiving data

        • A more consistent connection, as the network does not need to switch between 4G and 5G

        • More capacity, so the network can handle more devices at once without slowing down

Learn more about 5G and 5G phones

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has a 5,000mAh battery. This is the largest battery Samsung has put in a Galaxy Fold smartphone.

The battery is designed to last a full day of regular use, including:

        • Multitasking across apps on the 8-inch display

        • Streaming video, music and podcasts

        • Running AI features in the background

        • Using both the cover and main screens throughout the day

No, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra doesn’t include a charger in the box. The 45W Super Fast Charger is sold separately. This follows a common approach across the smartphone industry to reduce packaging and electronic waste.

Explore compatible chargers and more at Vodafone Accessories

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra supports superfast charging at 45W. This lets you charge the phone quickly when you need power in a short amount of time.

To use this fast-charging capability, you need a compatible 45W charger. Browse suitable options at Vodafone Accessories

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra supports wireless charging in two ways:

        • Superfast wireless charging at 20W

        • Wireless PowerShare – use the phone to charge other compatible devices, such as Galaxy watches or earbuds

To charge the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra wirelessly, place it on a Qi2-compatible wireless charging pad. Find the right one for you at Vodafone Accessories

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has two screens: a cover screen for when the phone is folded, and a main screen that opens out like a small tablet. Main display:

        • Size: 8 inches – this is close to the size of a small tablet. It gives you a lot of space when browsing, watching videos or running two apps side by side

        • Type: Dynamic AMOLED 2X – this display technology produces deep blacks, vivid colours and sharp contrast

        • Resolution: 2,184 x 1,968 (QXGA+) – this is a high resolution, which means text, images and video appear sharp and detailed rather than blurry or pixelated

        • Refresh rate: 1–120Hz adaptive – the refresh rate controls how often the screen updates each second. At 120Hz, scrolling and animations look smooth. The screen drops to a lower rate automatically when you’re doing less demanding things, such as reading, to save battery

        • Peak brightness: 3,000 nits – this is very bright. It means the screen stays easy to read in strong sunlight, such as outdoors on a sunny day. Vision Booster technology also adjusts the display automatically depending on your lighting conditions

        Cover display:

        • Size: 6.5 inches – similar in size to a standard smartphone screen. When the phone is folded, you get a full-sized screen to use without needing to open the device

        • Type: Dynamic AMOLED 2X – the same high-quality display technology as the main screen, giving you vivid colours and sharp contrast on the cover screen too

        • Resolution: 2,520 x 1,080 (HD+) – a sharp resolution for a cover screen, keeping text and images crisp when the phone is folded

        • Refresh rate: 1–120Hz adaptive – the same smooth scrolling as the main display, with automatic adjustment to save battery when the screen doesn’t need to refresh as quickly

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has five cameras in total: three on the back and one on each display. Here’s a breakdown of how to get the most out of them:

        Rear cameras:

        • Wide (main): 200MP, F1.7 – this is the main camera you’ll use for most photos. At 200MP, it captures an extremely high level of detail. The wide F1.7 aperture lets in a lot of light, which helps in darker settings

        • Ultrawide: 50MP, F1.9 – this lens has a much wider field of view, so it fits more into the frame. It’s useful for large group photos, architecture, landscapes or any scene where you can’t step further back

        • Telephoto: 10MP, F2.4, 3x optical zoom, 30x Space Zoom – this lens lets you get closer to your subject without physically moving. 3x optical zoom keeps the image sharp by using the lens rather than digital processing. 30x Space Zoom lets you zoom in much further for distant subjects, such as a performer on the stage

        Front cameras:

        • Cover screen: 10MP, F2.2, 100-degree field of view – a wide front camera that fits more people into a selfie. The field of view is noticeably wider than most front cameras, which helps when taking group shots or on video calls

        • Main screen: 10MP, F2.2, 100-degree field of view – the same wide front camera is on the main display too, so you get the same quality selfies and video calls whether the phone is folded or open

        AI camera features:

        • ProVisual Engine – Samsung’s AI imaging system runs on every photo and video you take. It analyses the scene and automatically adjusts settings to sharpen detail, improve colour, and balance exposure

        • AI ISP on front cameras – the AI processes selfies and video calls in real time, improving sharpness and exposure without any extra steps from you

        • Nightography – takes better photos and videos in low light. It reduces grain, brings out more detail in shadows and keeps colours accurate when the light is poor

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra includes Galaxy AI. It also comes with Google Gemini and Perplexity built in.

        Galaxy AI features

        • Now Nudge – the phone reads what you’re doing and suggests the next step. For example, when a friend sends you a restaurant booking, it can add the date to your calendar and pin the location in Maps, without you having to ask

        • Now Bar – shows shortcuts and live updates on the cover screen lock screen

        • Now Brief – gives you a daily summary of your schedule, travel times, and other useful information

        • Nightography – AI processing for photos and videos taken in low light

        • Audio Eraser – removes unwanted background noise from videos after recording

        • Portrait Studio – creates AI-generated portrait styles from your photos

        • Modes and Routines – automates phone settings based on your location, time of day or activity

        • Super Steady video – reduces camera shake when recording video

        • Writing Assist – helps you write, edit and rephrase text

        • Live Translate – translates calls and conversations in real time

        • Drawing Assist – helps you with sketches and illustrations

        • Transcript Assist – transcribes and summarises voice recordings

        • Photo Assist – editing tools powered by AI, including Generative Edit, Edit Suggestion and Instant Slow-mo

        • Note Assist – summarises and organises your notes

        • Browsing Assist – summarises web pages while you browse

        Google Gemini

        • Circle to Search – draw a circle around anything on screen to search for it instantly. For example, if you spot an outfit you like in a video, circle it to find where to buy it

        • Seamless actions across apps – speak a single command, and Gemini carries out multiple steps across different apps at once

        • Gemini Live – have a back-and-forth voice conversation with Gemini. You can also share your screen or use your camera so Gemini can see what you’re looking at

        Perplexity

Perplexity is an AI search tool that gives you direct answers with sources cited. It’s built in as an additional AI option on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the other latest Z-series models

        Bixby

Samsung’s own Bixby assistant is also available on the smartphone.

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is compatible with dual SIM. You can either use a nanoSIM with an eSIM or activate two eSIMs.

Whether you want to keep your personal and work number separate or are looking for data options when travelling abroad, see our best SIM only deals

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra supports eSIM.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra supports two eSIM configurations:

        • One physical nanoSIM and one eSIM

        • Two eSIMs, with no physical SIM card

An eSIM is a digital SIM card built into the phone. You can activate your plan digitally in just a few minutes, which is particularly useful when travelling. You can add a local data plan without visiting a shop or carrying a spare SIM card. Learn more about how eSIM works

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has an IP48 water resistance rating:

        • The ‘4’ (dust protection): protects against solid objects larger than 1mm, such as dust and grit

        • The ‘8’ (water protection): can handle being submerged in up to 1.5 metres of fresh water for up to 30 minutes

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra can handle rain, splashes and accidental drops in water. Samsung advises against taking it to the beach or into a pool. The IP48 rating is based on freshwater under controlled lab conditions, not on salt water or chlorinated water.

No, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra doesn’t support the S Pen. If S Pen support is a priority for you, Samsung has other models that include it. Both the Galaxy S26 Ultra and S25 Ultra come with an S Pen included in the box.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra will receive seven years of software support, which includes:

        • Major Android OS upgrades, keeping the phone on the latest version of Android for years to come

        • Monthly security patches, which protect the phone against security threats

Most phones in the industry receive two to three years of OS updates. Samsung introduced this seven-year commitment across its flagship range, meaning the Z Fold8 Ultra will stay up to date and secure well into 2033.

In practical terms, this means you are less likely to need to upgrade your phone just to stay on a supported software version, and your phone will continue to receive protection against new security risks throughout that period.

Both the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold8 share the same processor, charging speeds, durability and storage options. The main differences are screen size, camera and weight. Key differences:

        • Screen size: The Ultra has a bigger main screen (8 inches vs 7.6 inches) and a much bigger cover screen (6.5 inches vs 5.5 inches). In practice, you get noticeably more space for reading, watching video and running apps side by side

        • Camera: The Ultra has a 200MP main camera compared to 50MP on the Fold8. It also adds a third zoom lens with up to 30x Space Zoom. The Fold8 has no zoom lens. If you take a lot of photos or want to shoot distant subjects clearly, the Ultra is the stronger option

        • Battery: The Ultra has a slightly larger battery (5,000mAh vs 4,800mAh), which means a little more time between charges when using the larger screens heavily

        • Weight and size: The Fold8 is lighter (201g vs 214g). If you carry your phone in your hand or pocket for long periods, that difference is noticeable. The Ultra is thinner when folded (8.9mm vs 9.7mm), so it sits flatter in a pocket

Which one is right for you?

        • The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra – if you want bigger screens, a higher-resolution main camera and zoom capability

        • Galaxy Z Fold8 – if you need a lighter foldable and don’t need a zoom camera or the extra screen space
