FAQs

MDM is the monitoring, managing and securing of mobile devices such as laptops, smartphones and tablets that businesses use to access business-critical data.

This allows employees to be able to work on the go, as MDM means you can update software from a central location and lock or wipe devices if they get lost, stolen or damaged.

MDM helps businesses improve their productivity by allowing employees to use mobile devices to securely access business information while working remotely.

Many MDM solutions also integrate with other applications, such as helpdesk ticketing software and app development tools.

MDM can save time through automation, such as remote installation of apps and updating of software.

It can also help businesses achieve complex compliance standards across a business such as GDPR, and protect corporate data on mobile devices by controlling how it’s shared or saved on third-party services.

MDM can monitor the software and apps on a business mobile device to make sure they’re fully up to date and meet security standards. MDM can also find the location of the device if it’s reported lost or stolen.

However, it can’t see information about the files on the device, such as documents and images, and can’t move files around or send messages on the user’s behalf. There’s no control of the device beyond keeping the system and applications updated.

How MDM is implemented depends on the system you choose. In the case of Vodafone’s Secure Device Manager (VSDM), you use a portal to manage the security of your mobile devices. From this central portal, you can monitor and control all the mobile devices used by your business.
