Airports, tents and the Tube: Vodafone signal has you covered

Vodafone’s ongoing network improvement programme yields stronger signal, faster speeds and greater capacity for visitors and locals alike at holiday destinations across the UK.

Wherever you’re heading this summer – from airports to campsites – Vodafone’s strong and reliable signal is there to meet you.

Supersonic 5G

Vodafone customers travelling through London’s Gatwick Airport, Belfast’s George Best Airport and Newcastle International Airport can enjoy Vodafone 5G in the terminals. Elsewhere, dedicated 5G networks are planned to go live later this summer across Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.

5G is perfect for streaming boxsets in the departure lounge, booking last-minute experiences at your destination, or check in with friends and family over video chat. Vodafone 5G also has lower latency and can handle many more devices simultaneously, so your connection is super-quick however busy the terminal gets.

In the future, trips to the airport could also benefit from 5G’s arrival, with the technology having the potential to support services such as contactless check-in and digital passport checks. It could even tell you where to find a space in the car park when you arrive.

Vodafone already offers 5G in more locations across the UK, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Spain than any other UK network.

Whether you’re travelling to an EU country or further afield, here are the facts about charges for using your phone abroad.

Life’s a (UK) beach

If you prefer your holidays closer to home, Vodafone has you covered, too. ‘Staycationers’, as well as local residents and businesses, can now make the most of faster data speeds and more reliable calls as part of Vodafone’s ongoing network investment across the country – including many of the UK’s top holiday locations.

Improvements have been made to Vodafone’s 4G network across locations such as St Merryn in Cornwall, Prestatyn in Denbighshire, and Corfe Castle in Dorset, just in time for the busy summer season.

As a result of these upgrades, uploading holiday pictures to social media will be much faster, while call quality in these locations has also improved. 4G Calling (also known as Voice over LTE or VoLTE) uses the improved 4G coverage for crystal clear calls. Just in case you need to call your loved ones to tell them you’ve arrived safely or to contact the neighbour to double-check that you’ve locked the back door!

City breaks

For those who fancy an urban getaway, Vodafone’s network improvement programme continues to meet the ever-growing demand for mobile data in urban areas. This includes Vodafone 5G, which has been rolled out across major cities from Aberdeen to Plymouth, as well as many towns and villages across the UK.

Mind the closing doors: Vodafone 5G arrives on the Northern Line

Mobile internet access continues to grow across the London Underground.

For those visiting the capital this summer, Vodafone customers can enjoy WiFi in London Underground stations, as well as 4G and 5G in an ever-expanding number of stations and tunnels.

Festivals

Finally, if you’re attending some of the UK’s biggest outdoor jamborees this summer, Vodafone continues to ensure that you stay connected. Dozens of festivals, shows and events will receive coverage improvements to cope with the demand of those wanting to share their experiences with friends and family or book that taxi home after the gig.

Summer of strong signal: Vodafone gears up for 2023 events

For dozens of festivals, shows and events across the country this summer, from the Scottish Open to the Bournemouth Air Festival, Vodafone is working hard to ensure that visitors can stay connected.

Vodafone is also partnering with some household names this summer – such as Wimbledon and Glastonbury. Our special events team have designed and installed high-capacity mobile connectivity, including 5G, to enhance the experience for fans and deliver innovative experiences.

So, whether it’s posting on social media from the sun-lounger in Barcelona or checking the time of your favourite band from your tent in Somerset, Vodafone has your summer covered.
