Internet limit and usage notifications in the UK and when travelling (before 23 July 2016)

Data usage notifications in the UK and when travelling

1. Data usage caps:

Pay monthly and business customers:

When you use data abroad on your phone, tablet, Mobile Wi-Fi device or computer with a data dongle, you'll receive notifications about how much you've used.

When using data abroad, you're automatically opted in to a limit of £36.39 (changing to £39.33 from 23 July 2016) within our Europe Zone, and a limit of £36.39 (changing to £39.33 from 23 July 2016) within the rest of the world, for each monthly billing period. This limit is applied before VAT (if applicable) and is included within your charges.

You'll receive notifications at 80% and 100% of your plan's monthly data spend limit. Once you've reached 100% of your plan's monthly data spend limit in either our Europe Zone or the rest of the world, you won't be able to use any further data when abroad for the rest of the monthly billing period, unless you choose to opt out of your plan's monthly data limit.

To opt out, text UNCAP to 40209 or call customer services free on 191 from your Vodafone mobile. If you opt out, you won't receive the monthly data limit notifications. You can always opt back in by texting CAP to 40209 or calling customer services on 191 free from your Vodafone mobile at a future date to start receiving the monthly data limit notifications again.

If you’ve opted in to Vodafone EuroTraveller or Vodafone EuroTraveller for business, you’re automatically opted out of the monthly data limit in our Europe Zone and won’t receive any data limit notifications. The same applies if you’ve opted in to Vodafone WorldTraveller or Vodafone WorldTraveller for business and are roaming in our WorldTraveller Zone.

Pay as you go customers using a phone:
When you use data abroad on your Pay as you go phone, you'll receive notifications about how much you've used. You're automatically opted in to our whole world data limit of £36.39 (changing to £39.33 from 23 July 2016) for each calendar month.

You'll receive notifications at 80% and 100% of each calendar month's data limit. Once you've reached 100% of the data limit, you won't be able to use any further data abroad for the remainder of the calendar month. You can choose to opt out of the data limit.

To opt out, text UNCAP to 40209 or call customer services on 191 from your Vodafone mobile. If you opt out, you won't receive data limit notifications. You can opt back in by texting CAP to 40209 or calling customer services on 191 from your Vodafone mobile to have the cap reapplied and start receiving data limit notifications again.

Pay as you go customers using mobile broadband services:
Pay as you go customers using mobile broadband services won't receive notifications as there is no data limit. This is because data will be limited to the package you've bought.

If your data package runs out while you're abroad, you won't be able to use data. You can buy more than one data package of the same type, and when the first one has expired the next package automatically starts.

As you remain in control of how much you buy and spend on data, we won't send you any data usage notifications while you're abroad. To find out more on our Pay as you go mobile broadband roaming data packages, please visit vodafone.co.uk/travelling

2. Data usage notifications and how to manage your data spend in the UK and when travelling:

Pay monthly, Pay as you go and business customers:

You'll receive notifications when you use data (both in the UK and abroad) to let you know when you approach and reach the end of your data allowance. If you're abroad, the notifications usually arrive just before midnight in the UK.

If you're using a phone, we'll send you notifications by text. If you're using a tablet, Mobile Wi-Fi device or a computer with a data dongle, you'll get a flash pop-up via the dashboard.

If you're a Pay monthly customer, you can opt out of these notifications by sending STOP to 40506 or by calling customer services on 191 free from your Vodafone mobile. To opt back in, you can text START to 40506 or call customer services on 191.

Please note that if you're a Pay as you go customer, you can't opt in or out of these notifications.

3. The zones:

To see which zone a particular country falls into, and the data costs for that country, go to vodafone.co.uk/travelling

4. Setup for mobile broadband:

If you're a Pay monthly mobile broadband customer, you may need to upgrade your software. If you've added an inbound text message bar, you won't receive any notifications.

5. General

If you make any changes to your bundle or data pack, it may take up to 24 hours for all notifications to be accurate. Notifications is a free service to help you manage your data usage. We don't accept responsibility for notifications that aren't received for any reason outside our reasonable control. You're responsible for how much data you use. Please note, your bundle's monthly data allowance isn't applied to accounts, but to each telephone number or data SIM card.
