Anyone can donate a used smartphone or tablet - you don't need to be a Vodafone customer. Here's how to donate:
Frequently asked questions
What happens if my phone can't be reused?
Devices that can't be reused will be recycled and any proceeds will go to a tech fund to buy devices for our charity partners.
How does The Great British Tech Appeal work?
We collect used smartphones and tablets that are donated with the help of our chosen charity partners.
People receiving a device will benefit from free calls, texts, and 40GB data each month for a total of six months, after which they can choose to stay with us as a customer or join another network.
The Great British Tech Appeal is different from Vodafone Trade In, where you can trade in your old device for money or other benefits.
The Great British Tech Appeal relies on individuals donating their used devices, which means you won't receive any money in return.
How will donated devices get to those in need?
Vodafone will allocate donated devices to its chosen charity partners who will then allocate to individuals, families and schools they have identified as most in need.
What devices can be donated and in what condition do they need to be in?
The Great British Tech Appeal is looking for any smartphone or tablet that's in working condition.
Any donated device that can't be used (e.g., due to damage or software incompatibility) will be responsibly recycled.
Please note: other than smartphones and tablets, we can't accept any other electrical equipment.
How do I donate my device?
Donating your device is simple, fast and free of charge.
You can drop off your smartphone and/or tablet at any participating Vodafone UK store. A list of Vodafone stores can be found here.
Please note: Harrogate Victoria Centre; London Hammersmith; London Strand; London Baker Street; Wakefield Cathedral Walk; Gillingham; Bolton; Kendal; Epsom - Ashley Centre and Windsor are not participating.
We can also accept smartphones and tablets by post. Complete our online form and we'll email you postage instructions - you can choose to post your device or get a courier to pick it up from your nearest drop off location. Both options are free.
You'll need to source your own packaging - make sure you wrap your device in protective material like bubble wrap and place it in a sealed package to help protect it against damage.
Before returning your device, please ensure you do a full reset of the device to its default factory settings. No data should remain on your device.
If relevant, please also remove any locks and disable any 'find my device' functionality such as Find My iPhone
If 'Find my device' is not disabled, we will not be able to process or donate your device.
You can find more on how to wipe data from your device from Apple or Android.
Should the charger or other accessories be donated as well?
No. Unfortunately, we can't accept any chargers or other accessories (including SIM cards or memory cards) sent to us.
Please take extra care to remove any SIM cards or memory cards before donating your device.
Can donated devices be returned?
No. The Great British Tech Appeal relies on the generosity of individuals donating their used devices.
All donated devices are non-returnable.
By donating your device you agree that the device will belong to Vodafone (or its Charity Partners) once it's received by us, and that we (or our Charity Partners) can then choose to redistribute or recycle the device however we think is best.
What if some of my data remains on my donated device?
It's your responsibility to ensure that you have deleted any data stored on your device before donating it, including removing any SIM card and/or memory card.
If for some reason your personal information remains on a donated device, we'll data wipe all smartphones and tablets.
We're unable to return any SIM or memory cards sent to us so these will be responsibly recycled.
What will you do with the personal information I've provided in the online form?
