What is a SIM only deal?

A SIM only deal gives you an allowance of data, minutes and texts, all on one SIM card. We offer 12-month and 30-day SIM only plans and Pay as you go SIMs. Just insert the SIM into any Vodafone mobile phone , or one that’s not locked to a different network, to get started. If it’s a new SIM card, you can follow our SIM swap instructions for setting up and keeping your current number.

What are the benefits of a SIM only deal?

Choosing a SIM only plan has a number of benefits. It's perfect if your Pay monthly contract has just ended and you want to reduce your monthly costs while you wait for your ideal next phone. Or if you love the phone you've already got and see no reason to change it, you can continue to use it and enjoy the flexibility SIM only offers. For an even more flexible option, choose a 30-day SIM contract. If you change your mind or want to upgrade to another phone, it’s up to you. Opting for a 12-month SIM only contract means you can enjoy even better value 4G data, calls and texts, with cheap SIM only plans starting from under £15 a month. But you won't be tied down - you can upgrade to a Pay monthly contract with a new device after just 3 months of your SIM only contract.

How does SIM only work?

A SIM only plan gives you data, minutes and texts for a monthly cost. You don't get a new phone with a SIM only plan, you just get a SIM card, which you insert into your phone to start your plan.

Can I cancel my SIM only contract?

You can choose to cancel your SIM only contract. However, if you're within the minimum term of your contract when you cancel, you may be charged an early termination fee. You won't be charged an early termination fee if you're switching from a SIM only plan to one of our Pay monthly plans that includes a Phone Plan and Airtime Plan.

What happens when a SIM only contract ends?

If you get a Pay monthly SIM plan, you'll have a contract. This can range from 30 days up to 24 months. After your SIM only plan ends, it will continue rolling on a monthly basis until you cancel it. If you're on a Pay as you go SIM plan, then this is flexible, and doesn't have a contract.

Can I keep my phone number if I switch to a SIM only plan?

If you're already with us and you'd like to switch to a SIM only plan, your number will stay the same. But if you're switching to one of our SIM only plans from another provider, you'll need a PAC to keep your number. See our SIM only offers How to join Vodafone and keep my number

Can I change from a Pay monthly plan to SIM only?

Once your Phone Plan has been paid off, your monthly payments will automatically drop to your SIM only (we call this your Airtime Plan) payments.

Can I get 5G on a SIM only plan?

All our SIM only plans come with 5G as standard. If your phone is 5G-compatible, and you're in an area covered by our 5G network, you'll be able to use it. In other areas, you can use our 4G network.

Can I take my SIM only plan abroad?

Yes you can, but charges vary by destination and what’s included in your plan. For example, you can use your UK allowance of data, minutes, and texts while abroad (in line with our fair use policy) with selected Xtra plans. If your plan doesn't include roaming, you can buy a roaming pass to reduce the cost of using your phone abroad. What’s the difference between a SIM only and a Pay monthly contract?

The main difference is that you'll get a brand new phone or tablet along with a SIM card, when you chose from our wide range of Pay monthly plans. With SIM only, you bring your own phone and we'll supply you with the SIM card, so you can enjoy great value 4G and 5G data, calls and texts without factoring in the price of a new phone. Our SIM only contracts let you choose a 30-day, 12-month or 24-month plan. 30-day rolling plans - which renew automatically each month - give you more flexibility to change plan later on. Like a Pay monthly contract, you'll need to pass a credit check and sign an agreement with us to buy a SIM only plan.

What's the difference between a Pay monthly SIM only plan and a Pay as you go SIM only plan?

Our Pay monthly SIM only deals offer convenient packages of 4G and 5G data, minutes and texts without the need to change your mobile phone. With so many to choose from you can get the best deal to suit your needs. Choose a Pay monthly SIM only plan and you'll also enjoy flexible upgrades, with the option to get a new plan after just three months. Or change plans even sooner with one of our 30-day rolling contracts that renew automatically each month. With Pay as you go SIM only deals you only pay for what you want to use for maximum flexibility. Choose from a selection of 30-day bundles that give you data, plus unlimited minutes and texts. Do SIM only contracts improve credit?

SIM only plans are not a form of credit as you're not borrowing any money in advance - you pay upfront each month for an allowance of data, minutes and texts. This means it won't impact your credit score. However, if you pay for your SIM only using direct debit, this can help improve your credit history.

When ordering your SIM, you can choose between a physical SIM card or an eSIM which is digital. If you choose an eSIM, you'll need to make sure you have a compatible phone.

Device Plan: means devices purchased from Vodafone under a Consumer Credit Agreement such as phones (Phone Plan), smartwatches (Watch Plan), tablets (Tablet Plan) and laptops (Laptop Plan).

Vodafone EVO:

For Mobile: lets you select a monthly Device Plan credit Agreement (24 to 36 months) with a 24 month Airtime Plan. You can pay off your Device Plan early, and if you do, you can then keep your Airtime Plan on a 30-day contract or leave. If your Airtime Plan ends for any reason, you will need to keep on paying your monthly Device Plan (either in full or monthly)
For Smartwatches: lets you select a monthly Device Plan Credit Agreement (over 24 to 36 months) with a monthly Connectivity Plan. Watch Plans over 12 months require a 24 month Connectivity Plan. Upgrade from month 3: means a) buying a new Device Plan (which is a credit agreement) and an Airtime/Data/Connectivity Plan (as applicable) and b) either (i) paying off the remaining amount on your current Device Plan prior to upgrading, or (ii) paying for your current Device Plan along with your new Device Plan. Subject to credit check, eligibility and terms.

Trade-in Guarantee: Available when you trade-in an eligible device using our Trade-in Tool, and purchase a new Vodafone Pay Monthly Airtime Plan. Your Trade-in value is guaranteed for 7 days from the date of your Trade-in Quote. Device must be returned within 14 days of the start of your new Airtime Plan and meet our requirements. You can choose to receive your Trade-in value via a monthly airtime saving, a credit to your Vodafone account, or, if you are an existing customer, as a credit towards your existing Phone Plan balance. SIM only plan £100 bill credit terms and conditions: Switch to Vodafone on a new 24‑month SIM only plan between 18 September and 14 October 2026 and receive a £100 bill credit. The offer is available to new Vodafone customers who join with a PAC transfer from another network, are aged 18 or over, and remain connected for at least 14 days. Roaming

Roaming: using your home data plan to roam in Zone A is included in all of our Pay Monthly plans. For roaming in other destinations, charges will apply depending on which plan you are on.

Roaming Passes: For Pay Monthly customers without European roaming included in their plan, you can purchase an 8- or 15-day European roaming pass to use your monthly UK allowance of calls, texts and data in our Zone B destinations. The 8-day pass is £15, and the 15-day pass is £20. Out of bundle charges such as picture messages, premium calls or premium texts are not covered by this charge. These passes are subject to a 25GB roam fair use policy. Passes become active when you start roaming and only one pass can be used at a time. For more information and terms, visit our roaming page

Lifetime Service Promise: means a) Lifetime warranty covering manufacturer's defects, provided you have an active pay monthly Airtime plan + b) Battery refresh replacing your phone's battery (for 2-3 years) if it fails one of the Battery refresh tool tests. Lifetime Warranty: is an extended warranty covering manufacturer's defects (on phones purchased via Vodafone directly), provided you have an active pay monthly Airtime plan. Excludes damaged and tampered phones. Lifetime Warranty terms apply

Red Entertainment plans

Choose one entertainment option to be included in your Red Entertainment plan for the duration of your 24-month minimum term only. When the minimum term ends, your airtime plan will automatically renew with a monthly charge for your entertainment option (£9.99 a month for Disney+ Standard, £8.99 a month for Prime, and £12.99 a month for YouTube Premium as of 5 November 2025) added to your bill unless cancelled. Disney+ Standard

You can choose a Disney+ Standard subscription to be included in your plan for the duration of your minimum term. When the minimum term ends, your plan will automatically renew with a monthly charge of £9.99 (as of 5 November 2025) unless cancelled. The monthly charge will be added to your bill.
