If you’ve had your phone for at least 12 months, you can upgrade to the latest model, or another phone of your choice, on a new Pay monthly plan. The plan you choose must cost the same (or more) each month. Otherwise, continue with your current plan.

Frequently asked questions

There is normally a cost associated with upgrading your Pay monthly handset plan before the end of your contract (an early upgrade fee).

When you buy an eligible Vodafone Pay Monthly handset plan and then upgrade any time after 12 months under the Vodafone Annual Upgrade Promise Offer (the "Offer"), you will not be charged an early upgrade fee.

You’re eligible for the Annual Upgrade Promise if you bought the:

•    Samsung Galaxy S21 5G, S21+ 5G or S21 Ultra 5G between 14 January 2021 and 31 March 2021, 
•    iPhone 12 range between 16 October 2020 and 31 March 2021
•    iPhone 11 (any variant of the iPhone 11 range) and the iPhone SE purchased between 24 August 2020 and 20 October 2020.

It must be bought directly from us, either online, in-store, or over the phone.

If you bought the Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 5G, S20+ 5G, S20 Ultra 5G between 11 February 2020 and 30 April 2020, or iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max between 13 September 2019 and 31 March 2020, you’re also eligible for the Annual Upgrade Promise. You can upgrade 12 months from the date you received your phone – any earlier than this and you’ll be charged an early upgrade fee.
 

If you’d like to upgrade, you can do this any time after 12 months of your 24-month plan. This is calculated from the date your device is shipped.

You won’t need to pay any early upgrade fees, but you’ll still need to pay the upfront cost (if any) of the new phone you choose to upgrade to, in addition to the applicable monthly fee for your new plan. The new plan you choose must cost the same (or more) a month.

If you choose to upgrade any time after 12 months, you’ll need to return your eligible Samsung Galaxy or iPhone to us and then you can upgrade to a new Pay monthly phone, without any early upgrade fees.

You can upgrade over the phone and have your new phone delivered to you. 

To avoid an early upgrade fee, you’ll have 21 days to return your current phone to us using the return pack we send you.

Each return pack is limited to one phone only.

You’ll find a leaflet included within your return pack which has further information on how to return your phone using the pack. It also includes a pre-paid postage label.

Unfortunately, we can’t accept responsibility for any loss or damage during transit. If you’d prefer to upgrade to a fully insured service instead, just ask at the Post Office when you return your phone (extra charge applies). If you decide to do this, you must still use the return pack provided.

We’ll send you a return pack after you’ve received your new phone. This usually takes up to five days to arrive, but may take longer due to COVID-19.

If it’s been a while, call us free on 191 or start a web chat

Once you’ve received your return pack, please post your phone to us as soon as possible to avoid being charged an early upgrade fee.

The eligible phone you’re returning must be in reasonable working order. This means:

•    Find My iPhone security features are disabled if it’s iPhone
•    Any Google accounts have been removed if it’s a Samsung Galaxy
•    It turns on to home screen
•    The screen and back of the phone/casing is intact
•    Touchscreen should be functional

If your phone is broken or damaged, the phone will be returned to you, and you'll be charged the early upgrade fee in full.

You can upgrade to any Pay monthly handset on any 24-month plan. However, the phone and plan you upgrade to must be the same monthly cost or higher than your current phone plan.

If you don’t want to upgrade early, you can keep your existing phone and continue with your 24-month plan.

If you upgrade your phone as part of our Annual Upgrade Promise and you don’t return your phone to us, after 21 days we’ll charge you the full early upgrade fee and this will be equal to the value of the phone we were expecting to receive.

To ensure you don’t lose any of your data, such as emails, videos and photos, you’ll need to make sure all of the data is backed up securely, then you can load everything onto your new device.

Pay Monthly

Minimum term agreement, credit check and terms apply

Device plan: means a credit agreement for the duration of the plan. A Monthly Airtime Plan (i.e. Xtra Plan) is required with your Device Plan. Device Plans up to 12 months require either a 12 or 24 month Monthly Airtime Plan. Device Plans over 12  months require a 24 month Monthly Airtime Plan. You can pay off your Device Plan early, and if you do, you can then keep your Airtime Plan on a 30-day contract or leave. If your Airtime Plan ends for any reason, you will need to keep on paying your monthly Device Plan (either in full or monthly).

Minutes & text: to standard mobiles & landlines (UK: 01, 02, 03) & standard SMS in the UK & our inclusive roaming destination. A 1-minute minimum call charge applies.

Data: a 25GB fair roam policy on all Pay monthly plans, per 30-day period applies in our inclusive roaming destinations.

Unlimited data: available on Unlimited Lite Plan (max download/upload speed of 2Mbps), Unlimited Plan (max download/upload speeds of 10Mbps) & Unlimited Max Plan. Speed may vary by a number of factors.

Roaming: using your home plan to roam in the Republic of Ireland and Isle of Man (Zone A) are included in all of our Pay Monthly plans. For roaming in other destinations, charges will apply depending on which plan you are on. A 25GB roam fair use policy applies per billing month.

Trade-in saving is applied to Airtime Plan first. Upgrade from month 12: means a) buying new Device Plan (which is a credit agreement) and Xtra Plan (which is an Airtime Plan) and b) paying off the remaining amount on your current Device Plan prior to upgrading. Subject to credit check, eligibility & terms.

  1. Unlimited Picture Messaging (MMS): within the UK & our inclusive roaming destinations.
  2. Device Care: for the duration of the plan only. Applicable for IOS & Android phone devices. Includes a) health check giving you an indicator of the battery health & b) a valuation service giving you an estimated resell value of the phone. 
  3. 50% off Smartwatch Connectivity : for compatible cellular (not WiFi only) smartwatches. Smartwatch Connectivity Plan (via Vodafone OneNumber) lasts for 30 days & will automatically renew every 30 days unless cancelled. The plan is £7pm reduced to £3.50pm. Discount not applicable to customers on a £5 OneNumber Connectivity or to customers on an existing 24 month watch plan.
  4. Unlimited Data Booster + Inclusive Roaming in 51 European Destinations: 24/12 month Xtra Plans come with 6/3 boosts. Each boost provides unlimited data for 30 days. Inclusive Roaming in 51 European destinations allows you to use your monthly allowance of minutes, text and data to roam at no extra cost in our Zone A and B destinations. Total Care Warranty: 24 month warranty starts from the date of purchase of a handset from Vodafone either on a Device Plan or outright. Warranty only applies to manufacturer faults. Not applicable with Refurbished Phones. Terms:  Vodafone Total Care Warranty

Battery Refresh: applicable for phone devices purchased either on a Device Plan or purchased outright from Vodafone, with a Vodafone Pay Monthly Plan. Is available for the length of the plan (minimum of 2 years and maximum of 3 years). Battery Refresh is not available for phones that have been cracked, smashed or have water damage (i.e. damage that would not be covered under a manufacturer warranty) and chargeable repairs can be offered. An appointment is required for a health check and battery replacements. Book online at participating locations. Not applicable for Watch Plans or Refurbished Phones.

Vodafone Together discount: If you have signed up to an eligible Airtime and an eligible Pro Broadband plan, you are eligible for a discount on your Broadband plan. Both services must remain connected to continue to receive the discount. The discount amount will vary depending on what Airtime plan you have. Only selected Airtime plans include unlimited data, texts & minutes. Please see your Home Broadband Charges Guide for more information on discounts.

Roaming data is capped at 25GB per 30-day period in our inclusive roaming destinations. 

Pay as you go Bundles (Big Value Bundle): Minutes to standard mobiles and landlines (UK: 01, 02, 03), standard texts and data (excluding entertainment packs and Extras) to use in the UK and our Europe Zone. Last 30 days. Automatically renews every 30 days if you have enough credit. Opt out by calling 2345. For more information on Pay as you go Bundles (also known as Big Value Bundles).

Total Rollover: Any unused allowance from your current Pay as you go Bundle will only rollover from one bundle to the next, for use in the next 30-day period, if your Pay as you go Bundle renews automatically.
