Frequently asked questions

There is normally a cost associated with upgrading your Pay monthly handset plan before the end of your contract (an early upgrade fee).

When you buy an eligible Vodafone Pay Monthly handset plan and then upgrade any time after 12 months under the Vodafone Annual Upgrade Promise Offer (the "Offer"), you will not be charged an early upgrade fee.

You’re eligible for the Annual Upgrade Promise if you pre-order iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max. It must be bought directly from us, either online, in-store, or over the phone.

If you’d like to upgrade, you can do this any time after 12 months of your 24-month plan, from the date your device is shipped.

You won’t need to pay any early upgrade fees, but you’ll still need to pay the upfront cost (if any) of the new phone you choose to upgrade to, in addition to the applicable monthly fee for your new plan. The new plan you choose must cost the same (or more) a month.

If you choose to upgrade any time after 12 months, you’ll need to return your iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max to us and you can upgrade to a new Pay monthly phone, without any early upgrade fees.

You can upgrade in store or over the phone.

If you’re upgrading in store, you’ll need to return your phone at the point of upgrade.

If you’re upgrading over the phone, you’ll need to return your phone within 14 days of receiving the postage bag we send you, to avoid being charged any early upgrade fees.

The iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max you’re returning must be in reasonable working order. This means:

  • Find my iPhone security features are disabled. For more information visit Apple
  • It turns on to home screen
  • The screen and back of the phone/casing is intact
  • Touchscreen should be functional

If you've broken your phone, the phone will be returned to you, and you'll be charged the early upgrade fee in full.

Yes, our Annual Upgrade Promise is included when you pre-order iPhone 12 Mini or iPhone 12 Pro Max.

You can upgrade to any Pay monthly handset on any 24-month plan. However, the phone and plan you upgrade to must be the same monthly cost or higher than your current phone plan.

If you don’t want to upgrade early, you can keep your existing iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro Max or iPhone 12 Pro, and continue with your 24-month plan.

To ensure you don’t lose any of your data such as emails, videos and photos, you’ll need to make sure all of the data is backed up securely, then you can load everything onto your new device.

Before you return your phone to us, we will ask you to remove any personal data.  This is for your peace of mind, and means the phone is cleared of your personal data whilst in transit. Once we receive the phone, we will make sure that any previous data has been wiped using industry approved data wipe software.
