Changes to voice calling while roaming
Find out how 3G switch off in other countries may affect your service while you’re abroad
As part of network upgrades, network operators around the world will be switching off 3G services.
If you travel to a country where this has happened, you may notice an impact to your roaming experience.
This will depend on whether 4G Calling abroad is available in that country, and if your device has this option.
4G Calling abroad means you can make calls and use data over 4G networks.

We’ll update this list when other countries go live with this, so continue to check this page before you travel.
In countries where we don’t operate our own network, we partner with other operators so you can continue to use your phone abroad.
These mobile network operators are now upgrading their networks to expand their 4G coverage, and new 5G services. To free up capacity, they need to switch older 3G networks off.
We can’t control their plans around switching off 3G. However, we are doing what we can to bring 4G Calling abroad to more countries. This should result in improved call quality for compatible devices.
If you need any more details, call us on 191 from your Vodafone phone.
If you bought your phone through a Vodafone partner, speak to them directly to confirm your roaming rates.

Make sure your device is updated to the latest software version.
4G Calling abroad only works if you have a compatible device, which is controlled by manufacturers. You’ll also need to have a 4G plan.
If your device isn’t listed, you’ll be able to make calls over any available 2G network in the country. However, this does mean you may experience a lower call quality.
