You'll need to have a few things in place for Visual Voicemail to work:

  • iPhone 5s or a more recent model

  • Running iOS 12.0 or a more recent version

  • Your mobile data needs to be turned on

To set it up the first time:

  1. Go to the star screen and select the phone symbol

  2. Choose voicemail

  3. Choose Set Up and create your voicemail password, then tap done

  4. Select Custom or Default. If you choose Custom, you can record a greeting then press Save

You can view messages on your phone, without having to call your voicemail service. Listen to your message, by selecting the play symbol.

You can also choose Speaker to activate your loudspeaker. You can call back the person who left you the message by choosing Call Back. You can share messages by selecting the share symbol.

To set up a PIN, call 121 from your Vodafone mobile and choose Option 4 then Option 2 and follow the instructions.

You can then select your security level:

  • Standard – you'll need to enter your PIN if you're not calling from your Vodafone phone, or if you're calling from abroad

  • High security – you'll need to enter your PIN every time you call your voicemail to listen to your messages, even from your Vodafone phone

We recommend changing your PIN regularly and avoiding simple sequences, such as 1111, 1234 or 4321.

If you've forgotten your PIN and can't access your voicemail, we can reset it for you – chat to us online.

No. Visual Voicemail is free to use at home and abroad, and it doesn't come out of your Plan allowance. You will still need to have mobile data available to use Visual Voicemail.

Visual Voicemail is included at no extra cost but there may be a data charge when you're abroad. Check our roaming charge guide for more information.

Remember, you'll need to set up your security PIN before you leave the UK. If you don't do this, you won't be able to access your voicemail.

  • Check that voicemail is turned on by calling 121

  • Try turning airplane mode on, wait a moment, then turn it back on again

  • Try restarting the device

  • Try removing Visual Voicemail and then adding it back to your account. Call 12152 to remove it. Finish the call, then call 12151 to reinstall it

  • Make sure you have the correct number in the My Number section in Settings under  Phone

  • Text STATE to 100121

  • If none of these steps work, please chat to us for more help

Yes, if you'd prefer to go back to your old voicemail service, you can remove Visual Voicemail by dialling 12152. This means you should go back to just receiving text notifications.

You can then restore Alert & Deliver or Icon Notifications if you dial 121. Press 4 and then 3 on the keyboard. You'll then hear the options to change your notifications.

If you move from an iPhone to another make of phone, you'll automatically go back to our standard voicemail service.

You don't need to do anything to activate this, but there may be a few minutes delay in getting any notifications if a voicemail is left for you as you change devices.
