        Frequently asked questions

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 was made available to pre-order on 22 July 2026. It went on general sale on 7 August 2026.

Pop into your nearest Vodafone store and check it out in person.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. Upon its release, this is the most powerful and capable processor Samsung has put in a Galaxy Fold.

The chip is built specifically for Galaxy devices. It is designed to handle tasks that put a lot of pressure on a phone’s processor, such as:

        • Running multiple apps at the same time

        • Processing AI features directly on the device

        • Streaming, navigation, and browsing all running simultaneously

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is compatible with 5G+ – the Vodafone standalone 5G network that offers faster data speeds and more reliable connectivity than 4G.

You can find out more about 5G+ and where it is available on our network page

The Galaxy Z Fold8 has a 4,800mAh battery. This is a large capacity for a foldable phone, and it’s designed to last through a full day of use.

The battery is built to support tasks that use a lot of power, including:

        • Streaming video on the 7.6-inch main display

        • Running AI features alongside other apps

        • Using maps and navigation for extended periods

        • Keeping multiple apps open in split-screen view at once

When the battery needs recharging, the 45W fast-charging capability reduces the time it takes to reach full power.

No, the Galaxy Z Fold8 doesn’t include a charger in the box. To use the fastest charging speed this phone supports, you need a charger that delivers 45W.

You can find compatible chargers in our Accessories range.

Yes, the Galaxy Z Fold8 supports 45W superfast charging. This means the battery recharges quickly when connected to a compatible 45W charger.

The 45W charger needs to be purchased separately. Check out our range of compatible chargers at Vodafone Accessories

Yes, the Galaxy Z Fold8 supports 20W superfast wireless charging. You need to place it on a compatible wireless charging pad, and it will start charging without a cable.

It also supports Wireless PowerShare. This feature lets you charge other compatible wireless devices using the back of the Fold8. For example, you can place a compatible pair of earbuds on the back of the phone to charge them.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 has two screens: a cover display when the phone is folded, and a main display when it’s opened flat. Both use Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology, which produces sharp, bright images with vivid colours.

        Main display:

        • Size: 7.6 inches – one of the largest displays on a foldable phone. The extra screen space makes it easier to read text, view photos, and watch video without having to zoom in

        • Resolution: 2,184 x 1,968 (QXGA+) at 403ppi – a higher pixel density means finer detail in images and text. At 403ppi, individual pixels aren’t visible to the naked eye

        • Aspect ratio: 4:3 – this is a squarer shape than most phones. It gives more vertical space when reading documents or e-books, and matches the natural crop of most photos

        • Refresh rate: 1–120Hz, adjusts automatically – the screen updates up to 120 times per second when needed, which makes scrolling look smooth. It drops to a lower rate when the screen is still, which helps save battery

        • Peak brightness: 3,000 nits with Vision Booster – a higher nit value means the screen can get brighter. At 3000 nits, the display stays readable even in direct sunlight

        • Lies completely flat when open – there is no raised crease across the centre of the screen, so the whole display is usable as one continuous surface

        Cover display:

        • Size: 5.5 inches – larger than the cover screen on previous Galaxy Fold models, giving more room to read and reply to messages without opening the phone

        • Resolution: 2,520 x 1,080 (HD+) at 428ppi – a sharp display for a cover screen. Text and images are clear at normal viewing distance

        • Aspect ratio: 16:10 – a taller, narrower shape compared to the main display. This format fits social media feeds, short video clips, and vertical content without cropping

        • Refresh rate: 1–120Hz, adjusts automatically – the same adaptive technology as the main display, keeping motion smooth during scrolling and conserving battery when the screen is idle

The Galaxy Z Fold8 has cameras on the back of the phone and on both the cover and main screens. All cameras are supported by ProVisualEngine, which processes images to improve sharpness and detail. Rear cameras:

        • 50MP wide (OIS, F1.8, Adaptive Pixel) – the main camera for everyday photos. The 50MP sensor captures a high level of detail, so photos can be cropped or enlarged without losing clarity. OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) compensates for hand movement while shooting, which reduces blur in photos and video, particularly in low light or when moving

        • 50MP ultrawide (AF, F1.9) – captures a wider field of view, useful for group photos and large scenes, where a standard lens would cut off part of the scene. AF (Autofocus) means the camera adjusts focus automatically depending on what is in the frame

        Front and cover camera:

        • 10MP (FF, F2.2) with AI ISP – FF stands for Fixed Focus, meaning the lens doesn’t autofocus. The focal distance is set at the factory and stays fixed. This works well for a front camera because selfies are nearly always taken at a similar distance. It also means the shot is captured faster, as there is no focusing step before the shutter fires. AI ISP then processes the image to improve detail, such as skin tones and fine features, in different lighting conditions.

        Additional camera features:

        • Follow Cam – automatically adjusts the video frame to keep the main subject in shot as they move

        • Super Steady video with Horizontal Lock – reduces camera shake in video, including when the phone is moving

        • Nightography – improves image quality in low-light conditions

        • Photo Assist – corrects the appearance of food in photos, useful when the shot is taken after eating has started

        • 4:3 ratio across all cameras – photos are already sized to fit most display formats without needing to crop

Yes, Galaxy AI is built into the Galaxy Z Fold8 and runs on One UI 9, the phone’s software platform. The AI features are built into the phone and work across different apps and settings. Here’s a list of the main AI features the Z Fold8 has access to:

        Galaxy AI

        • Circle to Search with Google – draw, tap, or scribble around anything on your screen to search for it instantly, without leaving the app you are in. For example, if you see an outfit you like in a photo or on a video, circle it, and Google will show you where to find it online

        • Seamless Actions – lets you complete tasks across multiple apps using a single voice command. Press the power button to activate it, then speak. The phone understands your instruction and executes it across the relevant apps simultaneously

        • Now Nudge – gives relevant suggestions at the right moment, based on your activity. For example, when you are arranging plans with someone over messages, it may suggest opening a split view so you can check your calendar at the same time, without switching apps manually

        • Now Bar – a strip that appears at the bottom of the screen showing live activity from apps currently in use, such as music playback, a running timer, or turn-by-turn navigation

        • Now Brief – a daily summary that shows the information most relevant to you at a glance, including upcoming calendar events, reminders, and suggested next steps

        Gemini

        • Gemini Live – allows you to have a real-time verbal conversation with the assistant. It can also work with screen sharing, where Gemini can see what is on your display and respond to it, or with the rear camera, where it responds to what the phone is pointed at

        Perplexity

        • Perplexity is an AI search tool that comes pre-installed on the Fold8. It’s built for questions that need more in-depth answers than a standard web search provides. Press and hold the home button to open it. A network connection and a Perplexity account are required

        Bixby

        • Bixby is Samsung’s built-in voice assistant. You can use it to control phone settings by speaking: adjusting screen brightness, clearing notifications, or opening an app. Say “hey Bixby” to activate it. A Samsung account and network connection are required

Additional AI features The Galaxy Z Fold8 also includes a wider set of AI-powered tools built into the camera, apps, and system:

        • Writing Assist – suggests improvements or alternative wording as you type

        • Live Translate – translates phone calls and conversations in real time

        • Transcript Assist – converts recorded audio into a written transcript

        • Note Assist – summarises and organises notes automatically

        • Browsing Assist – summarises web pages so you can read the key points without going through the full page

        • Drawing Assist – refines or extends hand-drawn sketches using AI

        • Photo Assist – restores the appearance of food in photos taken after eating has started

        • Edit Suggestion – recommends photo edit adjustments after a photo has been taken

        • Generative Edit – lets you move, remove, or resize objects within a photo; the background fills in automatically

        • Portrait – adjusts background blur and lighting in portrait photos

        • Audio Eraser – removes unwanted background sounds from a video after it has been recorded

        • Nightography – improves image and video quality when shooting in low-light conditions

        • Super Steady video – reduces camera shake in video; Horizontal Lock keeps the frame level even when the phone is moving

        • Instant Slow-mo – uses AI to generate slow-motion footage from standard video clips

        • Modes and Routines – automates phone settings based on your location, time of day, or activity. For example, the phone can switch to silent automatically when you arrive at a specific location

Yes, the Galaxy Z Fold8 supports dual SIM, meaning two separate phone numbers or mobile plans can be active on the smartphone at the same time.

The Fold8 supports the following two SIM configurations:

        • One physical nanoSIM card and an eSIM

        • Two eSIMs simultaneously, with no physical SIM card needed

This is useful in situations where keeping two numbers on one device is practical – for example, maintaining a personal and a work number separately, or using a second plan when abroad without deactivating your primary number.

Yes, the Galaxy Z Fold8 supports eSIM, and you can have up to two eSIMs active simultaneously.

An eSIM is a SIM that is integrated into the phone’s hardware rather than a removable card. A mobile plan is assigned to it digitally through your network provider, with no physical SIM required. Learn more about eSIM and our eSIM-compatible devices

The Galaxy Z Fold8 has an IP48 water-resistance rating. This means it can withstand being submerged in fresh water up to 1.5 metres deep for up to 30 minutes.

In practice, this covers common accidental exposure to water, such as:

        • Being caught in rain

        • Splashes from a sink or tap

        • Brief contact with shallow water

The IP48 rating only applies to fresh water. The phone isn’t rated for use in salt water, chlorinated water, or water under pressure (such as from a shower or tap at full flow). It’s intended to protect against accidental water exposure, not planned submersion.

No, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 isn’t compatible with the S Pen. If S Pen functionality and a large screen are important to you, check out the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra

Samsung has committed to seven years of software support for the Galaxy Z Fold8, covering both operating system updates and security patches.

Operating system updates introduce new software features and changes to how the phone functions. Security patches, on the other hand, address identified vulnerabilities in the phone’s software to reduce the risk of unauthorised access to data.

A seven-year support window means the Z Fold8 will continue to receive these updates longer than the industry standard for most smartphones.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 are both foldable phones, but they fold in different directions and are designed for different types of use. The Fold8 opens sideways to reveal a large tablet-style screen. The Flip8 folds in half vertically, making it more compact when closed.are both foldable phones, but they fold in different directions and are designed for different types of use. The Fold8 opens sideways to reveal a large tablet-style screen. The Flip8 folds in half vertically, making it more compact when closed. Here’s how the two phones compare across the main categories:

        • Screen size: The Fold8 has a 7.6-inch main display – significantly larger than the Flip8’s 6.9-inch screen. If screen size is a priority, the Fold8 has the advantage

        • Size and weight: The Flip8 is lighter (180g vs 201g) and folds down to a smaller footprint, making it easier to carry in a pocket

        • Camera: Both have a 50MP main camera. The Fold8 pairs it with a 50MP ultrawide; the Flip8 has a 12MP ultrawide lens. The Flip8 also has FlexCam, which uses the fold to create hands-free shooting angles.

        • Battery and charging: The Fold8 has a larger battery (4,800mAh vs 4,300mAh) and faster wired charging (45W vs 25W)

        • Storage: The Fold8 is available in up to 1TB storage. The Flip8 goes up to 512GB

        • Price: The Fold8 is the more premium smartphone and is priced higher than the Flip8

        Which should you choose?

        • The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the larger smartphone. It’s built around its main display and is suited to people who want more screen space for content, reading, and using multiple apps simultaneously

        • The Galaxy Z Flip8 is lighter and more compact when folded. It is suited to people who want a foldable that takes up less space in a pocket and operates like a standard smartphone when open
