Compare Google Pixel 8 Pro vs Google Pixel 9

Which one is best for you?

Released a year apart, there are some key differences between the two devices. The Google Pixel 8 Pro has a larger 6.7-inch Super Actua display¹, whilst the Pixel 9's Actua display is smaller at 6.3-inches¹. However, the Pixel 9's screen is much brighter at up to 2,700 nits in peak brightness², has a 60-120 Hz refresh rate³, and a better contrast ratio of >2,000.000:1. In comparison to Pixel 8 Pro's 2,400 nits in peak brightness², a 1-120 Hz refresh rate³, and a lower contrast rate of >1,000,000:1.

Both devices have great battery lives, with Pixel 9's outperforming Pixel 8 Pro - although they both have a 24+ hour battery life⁴. The Pixel 9 offers up to 100-hour battery life with Extreme Battery Saver⁵, whilst Pixel 8 Pro offers up to 72 hours⁵ in comparison. The devices both offer fast wireless charging⁶, as well as Battery Share - so you can charge other devices wirelessly⁷. Interestingly, the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9 both offer 12GB of RAM for fast multitasking, however, the Pixel 9 leads with the later Google Tensor G4 processor, in comparison to Pixel 8 Pro's Tensor G3. It's worth noting that only the 8 Pro can expand up to 1TB in storage⁸ - the Pixel 9 is limited to 265GB⁸.

In terms of cameras, the Pixel 8 Pro has a triple camera system consisting of a 50MP wide camera, 48MP ultrawide camera, and a 48MP telephoto camera. It also offers a 10.5MP selfie camera and 4K video recording. The Pixel 9 has the same specifications but is missing the telephoto camera. It is worth noting though that the Pixel 9 has some of the latest AI camera features, like Add Me which enables you to add the photographer into a photo, so they're not missed out. It also includes the new Pixel Studio⁹ so you can create your own AI-powered imagery.

In conclusion, both phones have advantages and disadvantages. The Pixel 9 has a better screen, longer battery life, more AI features, and improved processor but it lacks more advanced camera features. The Pixel 8 Pro's larger screen and more storage options may be beneficial - especially at its lower price point.
