Compare Google Pixel 9 vs Google Pixel 9 Pro XL

Which one is best for you?

The Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL were released in 2024. Forming part of the same series, the 9 Pro XL is a more advanced device, featuring a larger 6.8-inch Super Actua display¹, with a 1-120 Hz refresh rate², and up to 3,000 nits in peak brightness³. In comparison the 9 has a smaller 6.3-inch Super Actua display¹, a 60-120 Hz refresh rate, and is up to 2,700 nits in peak brightness³.

Both devices benefit from a 24+ hour battery life⁴, and both can achieve a 100-hour battery life with Extreme Battery Saver⁵. This is despite the Pixel 9 having a smaller 4,700 mAh battery as opposed to the 9 Pro XL's 5,060 mAh battery⁶. The Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL also have fast wireless charging⁷ and the ability to Battery Share - so they can charge other devices wirelessly⁸. To go with its great battery life, the 9 Pro XL has a 16GB RAM which is ideal for lots of multitasking and gaming, the Pixel 9 has a slightly smaller 12GB RAM which is still a good size. Both devices share the Google Tensor G4 processor to pair with the large on-board memory.

The 9 Pro XL features a triple camera system, with a 50MP wide camera, a 48MP ultrawide camera, and a 48MP telephoto camera. The Pixel 9 is missing the telephoto camera lens, featuring just the 50MP wide and 48MP ultrawide cameras - if you're an avid photographer you may find the telephoto lens an advantage. The 9 Pro XL also has 8K video recording, with the Pixel 9 being limited to up to 4K. As 9 series devices, both offer many AI features, including Add Me⁹, which uses AI alongside augmented reality to add the photographer into your photo, the Pixel Studio app¹⁰ to create images from prompts, and Magic Editor to enhance photos further with tools to remove or add objects.

When you compare the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL, both devices have great capabilities and are similar in some respects. Choose the Pixel 9 for an amazing battery life, fast processing power, a great camera and AI features. If you want something more advanced, opt for the Pixel 9 Pro XL for an even better camera, faster processing power, and a larger screen.
