Device financing definitions terms and conditions
What is a Device Plan (Loan Agreement)?
A Device Plan is a loan/credit agreement regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which allows you to spread the cost of a device over a fixed term. The agreement will be between you and Vodafone who will lend you the cost of the device which you'll repay in monthly instalments. The total cost of the device won't change over the term of the loan as Vodafone offers 0% interest loans.
Device Plan is part of Vodafone EVO, the mobile offering that lets you choose how much you pay upfront for your device, how long you spread the cost of the loan for your device if you decide not to purchase it outright (from 24 up to 36 months or from 24 up to 48 months for premium laptops and tablets) and when you want to upgrade your device. You can take out a loan for a phone (Phone Plan), laptop (Laptop Plan), tablet (Tablet Plan), or smartwatch (Watch Plan).
Once you select your Device Plan and relevant Airtime/Connectivity/Data Plan and you have looked through the key loan information, you’ll receive your loan agreement and supporting documentation. This agreement must be signed within 72 hours of taking out the Device Plan. If it is not signed within this timeframe, your order will be cancelled.
When you purchase a device from Vodafone—whether outright or through a loan—you’ll also need to purchase an airtime, data or connectivity plan that keeps your device connected. The type of airtime, data or connectivity plan you need depends on the device:
Phones require an Airtime Plan which covers your data, minutes, and texts.
Laptops and tablets require a Data Plan which provides data for mobile broadband use.
Smartwatches require a Connectivity Plan which shares your Vodafone airtime’s data, minutes and texts with your smartwatch.
Each plan has its own minimum term and features, and you’ll be guided to the right one during your purchase journey.
What is an Airtime Plan?
An Airtime Plan (also referred to as an Xtra Plan when purchased with Vodafone EVO) covers the cost of your airtime (data, minutes and texts). It can be purchased on its own as a SIM-only or with a device from Vodafone. You can choose from a selection of Airtime Plans on the Vodafone website.
If you purchase a device from Vodafone, either outright or via a loan agreement (Vodafone EVO), you must also purchase an Airtime Plan.
Your Airtime Plan can have a minimum term of 30 days, 12 months or 24 months. If a device is purchased from Vodafone, only a 24-month Airtime Plan is available.
What is a Connectivity Plan?
A Connectivity Plan allows you to share the data, minutes and texts from your Airtime Plan with your smartwatch. Your Airtime Plan can have a minimum term of 30 days or 24 months. However, if you purchase a Watch Plan from Vodafone, you are required to also purchase a 24-month Connectivity Plan.
What is a Data Plan?
A Data Plan covers the cost of your data usage for your laptop, tablet or other mobile broadband device. Your Data Plan can have a minimum term of 30 days, 12 months or 24 months. If a device is purchased from Vodafone, only a 24-month Data Plan is available.
Billing and payment information
You’ll receive one monthly bill for your Airtime, Data, Connectivity Plans (as applicable) and any extras like insurance. Each Device Plan will be billed separately. In most cases the Direct Debit payments for your Device Plan and Airtime/Connectivity/Data Plan will come out on the same date each month, but you may see one of the payments coming out a few days earlier or later. The Airtime / Connectivity / Data Plan including Add-ons e.g. Insurance payment will be titled “VODAFONE LTD” and the Device Plan i.e. loan will be titled “VODAFONE LTD DEVICE”. Please make sure you don't cancel either of these monthly payments.
If you want to change your Direct Debits so both payments come out on the same date, you can do so by calling 191.
You can check how much is left to pay for your Device Plan i.e. loan or Airtime/Connectivity/Data Plan as well as pay your Device Plan off early through your My Vodafone account online or via the My Vodafone app.
Please note:
Returns and cancellations during your 14-day cooling off period can only be done with both Airtime/Connectivity/Data Plan and Device Plan together.
If your Airtime/Connectivity/Data Plan is still within the minimum term and you'd like to cancel it, you'll be required to pay an early termination fee.
If you pay off your Device Plan i.e. loan early and in full, you'll be released from your Airtime/Connectivity/Data Plan minimum term.
