Struggling with phone signal at home? This article will cover 10 ways you can boost your signal at home and get better mobile connectivity.
1. Check your coverage
Your phone signal might be poor due to network outages. Your network provider should have a network status checker, where you can see if there are outages in your area. If you’re a Vodafone customer, visit our network status checker
2. WiFi calling
If you have access to WiFi in your home, try turning on WiFi calling in your settings. This enables you to call and send messages over your WiFi connection rather than your mobile’s data or cellular connection. Like other large network providers, we support WiFi calling at Vodafone.
3. Restart your phone or toggle on Airplane Mode
It might sound too simple, but sometimes restarting your phone can help your connection. You could also try turning your phone’s Airplane Mode on and off, which will force your phone to rescan for your mobile network provider.
4. Update your phone’s software
If your phone’s software is out of date, it can sometimes interfere with your mobile connection. There could be a bug in your phone’s operating system that could be fixed by updating. On most phones, you can turn on automatic updates, so you know you’ve always got the latest software.
5. Update your carrier settings
Like updating your phone’s software, sometimes carrier settings can be out of date. If prompted, you should update your carrier settings and install any new software. This won’t be very often and is usually when your phone’s provider introduces new features.
6. Update your SIM card
Is your SIM card old? You may not know. Sometimes older SIM cards (3-5 years) struggle to connect to newer technologies like 5G and 5G+. If you haven’t switched network providers in a long time, you might be using an older SIM card. If you switch to a plan that is 5G/5G+ ready, you’ll usually be notified if you need a new SIM card. At Vodafone, we offer a range of 5G-ready Pay monthly SIM only deals
7. Remove your phone case
It might sound silly, but sometimes your phone case can block your phone’s signal. If your case is particularly thick or made with metal, it could interfere with your signal. We recommend silicone, plastic, or leather cases – these are less likely to cause problems.
8. Try another area
Does your signal keep dropping in the same area? Try moving to a different location in your home to make a call, as sometimes a building’s material can affect the signal.
9. Upgrade your device
If you have an older device, it might not be compatible with the latest 5G and 5G+ technologies. Often, feature phones, or phones made before 2020, lack the hardware to connect to 5G. If your phone can’t connect to 5G, it’ll connect to 4G or 4G LTE, which may not offer you the speeds you need. Need a new device? Explore our latest phone deals
10. Change your plan
If it’s not your phone or your environment that’s slowing you down, it could be your phone’s plan. Not all plans come with 5G or 5G+ as standard, and some may be limited to 4G. At Vodafone, we have a range of 5G and 5G+ ready plans, and we’ve just introduced our new Vodafone SuperMobile plans. Vodafone SuperMobile offers up to 4x faster speeds on our new 5G+ FastTrack. This is a new dedicated lane on our network that prioritises your connection.
